vCenter service account permissions

$

A Client has recently upgraded their Horizon View environment from 7.03 to 7.3.1

When provisioning an instant Clone Pool with multiple VLANs the task fails with a SERVER_FAULT access denied error.  The pool does create without a problem when following the network on the Golden Image VM.

There was a vcenter custom role in place (configured as per the vmware documentation for Horizon 7.0).  Comparing the requirements between 7.0 and 7.3 the following appear to be the only documented differences.

Virtual Machine

In Provisioning

  • Clone Template
  • Clone Virtual Machine

They have been added to the role but still no dice.  The provisioning works when the service account is given full vcenter admin permissions.

I thought I'd see if anybody was aware of extra permission requirements/prereqs for using multi VLAN deployments that I may be missing, I am assuming this is a permissions issue.

Thanks

Instant Clone recommendations

Hi,

I have some questions regarding instant clones, hopefully someone could help:

1- Is there any recommendation in the number of instant clones per replica ? I mean the size of the pool when using different datastores for instant clones and replica disk.

2- Is there any recommendation in the number of instant clones per datastore ? It used to be 128 for linked clones, but cannot find anything specific for instant clones.

3- Is it supported using the same golden to create different instant clones pools ?

Thank you.

Condition 1. DHCP relay agent can be configured on the physical route/switch, how to set up the DHCP server ?

Condition 2. DHCP relay agent can NOT be configured on the physical route/switch, how to set up the DHCP server ?  Can i use multiple NIC on the DHCP server, each one serve one subnet ?

Thanks.Thanks.Thanks.

Vmware view usb redirection dont work ubuntu

Dear, Currently I can not redirect USB ports to Windows 7 from my Client, Ubuntu detects them as a device when connecting but not redirect. That is, the mouse and the keyboard can use it without problems, but not other devices like: pendrives, cameras, scanners.

It is not a problem of the hardware, since it probe with different equipment in disposition and the fault appears in all equally. It is not a problem of Horizon configuration since we have Dell Wyse computers and in them the redirection works without problems. Only seucede with notebook and Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32-bit

Vmware Horizon Client 4.3.0 Build 4710754

What could I start seeing? I'm new to vmware client ubuntu

Hi,

I have a problem on connecting to a vdi via VMWare Horizon Client. When I try to display my desktop monitor, the popup remains in a "Connecting" status, and even some time is spending in order to wait the connection, nothing appears.

vmWare-connecting.png

The connection to the same machine, instead, correctly works from another pc.

I try to unistall and reinstall VMWare but nothing change. I don't know how to do, it will be so urgent for me to connect to this machine from my pc, please can you help me ?

I write some data that maybe can help you, but please ask me if you need more information.

Push / Publish Horizon Instant Clone Image via PowerCLI

It states in the horizon 7 documentation that PowerCLI is 'not supported' with instant clone pools:

Documentation for VMware Horizon 7 version 7.0

I'd like to automate the publishing process using the latest horizon cmdlets, which, according to the marketing material says gives access to the full view API.....so you'd think it /should/ be possible?

If so, does anyone know the code / methods to call for instant clone push operations?

Thanks

RDS Farm: Agent Unreachable after attempting to reconnect to session with BLAST

$

Hey all,

I recently built a PoC environment with Horizon 7.2 used for only  RDS hosted apps.  Pool is set to use only BLAST protocol and not allow users to choose others.  It worked fine for a few days after implementation, and then the customer reported that their RDS hosts were going into agent unreachable status.  Issue was reproducible by connecting to an application, closing the horizon client, and attempting to reconnect from another PC.  The user would get a message saying the remote host is not ready to accept connections, and then a few minutes later the RDS host would go into agent unreachable status in View administrator.  I checked the View Agent service status and it was still running on the RDS host, and there were no references to it shutting down in the log or debug log.

Today, I found some odd messages in the blast-worker-sessionid2.log file at the time of the issue.  This repeated every 10 seconds until the time of me capturing the log files:

2017-10-25 15:34:47.625-0400 [WARN ] 0x1178 bora::Warning: socket 113 state: CLOSE_WAIT local: 0.0.0.0:49152 remote: 10.1.10.56:61769

2017-10-25 15:34:57.323-0400 [WARN ] 0x1178 bora::Warning: socket 113 state: CLOSE_WAIT local: 0.0.0.0:49152 remote: 10.1.10.56:61769

2017-10-25 15:35:07.021-0400 [WARN ] 0x1178 bora::Warning: socket 113 state: CLOSE_WAIT local: 0.0.0.0:49152 remote: 10.1.10.56:61769

I then changed the pool to use only PCoIP and so far, have not been able to reproduce the issue.  Has anyone seen anything like this with BLAST?

Thanks!

Howto create custom default profile (CopyProfile) for use with Quickprep

$

I am looking into creating a custom default profile for our Floating desktop pool VDI desktops. Until now i have found a number of guides on how to use the CopyProfle option to copy a user profile to the default user during the sysprep phase. For example, the MS instructions: Customize the Default User Profile by Using CopyProfile | Microsoft Docs

Atm we use the VMware Quickprep option when composing the desktop pool, and don't want to change that. If iven possible, i have no idea how to incorporate the CopyProfile method when using Quickprep, or if there is another way to get this to work.

I also tried defprof but is doesn't give us the exact result we want, and i also rather go for a supported and know method.

Is there someone who is able to guide me into the right direction?

Is file cop\paste supported in thick client using blast?

$

Hi

New deployment of Horizon view 7.3.1, this time exclusively using BLAST as the only protocol.

We were using PCOIP and file copy\paste clipboard redirection used to work fine in the thick client. Copy from desktop VM, paste to client machine's desktop etc.

Enabled the group policy settings for blast and now text and file transfers work fine in the html client via the transfer icon in the sidebar on the browser.

Text based clipboard redirection works in thick client.

Should file copy\paste work in the thick client the same way it used to with PCOIP, now it is using the blast protocol instead? Should the blast group policy settings enable this functionality in the thick client or is it just configuring blast in the html client?

I know we can go the full blown client drive redirection route but is this the only way?

Thanks

Andy

2017-11-09T11:55:39.997 INFO (0f20-17a0) [LogonMonitor::ProcessWFREvent] Windows Folder Redirection Processing Finished

This showed me 2 things:

1) Folder redirection is taking a very long time thus i need to find out why. This delay is a hit and mis. Sometimes login is 17 sec, the other time it is about 120 sec!

2) I see a lot of messages about "Failed to find Session for User PolicyEvent id..."

Does anyone know what the Failed to find.. messages are about and i there is something i need to check/fix?

Persona service intermittently starting up disabled

We've been using View 5.3 for several years and it has been working quite well for us.  We have a linked-clone with persona configuration. The past several days we've had instances where quite a few of the desktops are starting up in the morning with the persona service disabled.  Generally we just reset their desktop and have them log back on.  These past few days we've had to reset desktops multiple times to get the persona service to start up normally and personas to get sync'd. We don't believe there have been any changes in our View environment.  Has anyone else run into this and know what might be causing it?

Black Screen with all protocols when connecting

We have  a wierd setup at a new remote office we acquired recently.  Some computers are on our domain and some are not (for odd reasons).   We have a Metro E connection to our office and they have a Sonic Wall that they use for Internet.  The issue has a lot to do with DNS and the way things are setup but curious how to get by this in the short term (might be 6 months).  If I try to connect up using out external address www.ourcompny.com then i connect fine thru Horizon View since it is going out the Internet connection in that office.  If i choose to user the Internal IP address or our connection server then all I get is a black screen.  After about 30 seconds then it disconnects.  I can ping the Internal IP by number but not by name.  I tried adding an entry in the Windows Host file with no luck.  WE are running View 7.0.2.  Any comments of suggestions are welcome.  Thanks

Unable to Enable Desktop Floating Pool

Hi,

I am working on upgrading to Horizon View 7.2.0.  I have created an "Automated Desktop Pool (Floating Linked Clone)".  When I go to the "STATUS" and use the drop down to "Enable Desktop Pool" I receive the error " [userid] failed to update Desktop [pool name] ".  I looked in the View Connection Logs and found the following error:

2017-06-22T23:31:02.871-04:00 ERROR (0A88-18AC) <pool-11-thread-5> [FaultUtil] InvalidArgument(parameter: desktopSettings.displayProtocolSettings.pcoipDisplaySettings.renderer3D): 3D rendering cannot be enabled when default protocol is RDP and users are not allowed to choose protocol.

In the Pool settings "3D Renderer" is Grayed Out and set to "disabled"

I did not have an issue Enabling the Pool configured like this in Version 6.2.0.

Thanks in advance,

Rick

VMWare Horizon Client: do inbound ports need to be opened?

I'm trying to diagnose and fix a total failure of Client Drive Redirection to work on the client, version 4.6.0, 64-bit. I set up the sharing on the connection properties, but it's not there in the "Computer" display on the remote Windows 7 image.

I've read some articles about ports needing to be opened to new inbound traffic (9427, 32111 for example) but I'm not clear whether that's a requirement on the machine which runs the client.

My (Linux) client sits on a 10.n.n.n network behind a NAT router (with a firewall which I control), onto a 192.168.n.n network which has another NAT firewall router connection to the public internet.  Both firewalls are set up fairly conventionally, to allow established traffic in but basically nothing else.  I can't see a way of doing port forwarding on both of those routers so that an unsolicited inbound connection would work on such ports (even if I was happy to do so from a security point of view, which I'm doubtful about).

Have I got this wrong?  Does the VMWare server open new (that is, not already established) connections on inbound ports?  If so, how do others configure their firewalls to allow it?

vmware view: long delay between end of boot and desktop access

Hi all

we have a Virtual Center server with 2 Connection Servers + Secure Servers supporting about 35 and 55 guests each. All guests are Win7.

The machines usually boot in less than 30 seconds.

The problem is, it takes at least 5 minutes (and up to 15) for the user to be able to see the desktop.

So it appears that either:

a. the Connection server fails to communicate to the View client that the machine is ready for login

b. the view client hangs before sending the login instructions

c. the Connection server hangs while applying the login instructions

d. there's a different kind of problem entirely

Do you have any suggestion about how I could troubleshoot this?

Thanks
