Hi,

one short question:

Is it possible to install 2 security servers (Windows-based), which are pointing to one connection server?

Horizon 7 Standard - vSphere Desktop

Hi all,

I have a quick licensing question (hopefully).  I've checked over the relevant View licensing and packaging document but don't seem to be able to identify a specific answer to my scenario.

I wish to purchase 4 x 10 pack View Standard licenses.  This is for a new VDI POC implementation consisting of around 35 Windows 8 and Win 7 desktops along with a couple of View Connection servers.  There will be a new Active Directory service installed on Server 2012 R2 as part of this implementation.  I understand that View Standard includes vSphere Desktop and vCenter Desktop, which provides the hosting facility for the VDI desktops as well as "running VMware products which are included in VMware View Enterprise, VMware Horizon View or the VMware Horizon Suite, or third party connection brokers and desktop management and monitoring tools" (from the VMware View EULA).

I understand the EULA to mean any Connection Servers, Security Servers, Replica Servers, etc., including Active Directory in this case, which are required for a View implementation.  However there is another Window 2012 R2 server required for this POC which hosts some third-party smartcard software.  This is the grey area for me - it is required for this specific VDI implementation but is not part of the Horizon suite.

Can someone advise on whether it is likely I would be contravening the EULA by hosting this smartcard VM on a vSphere Desktop ESXi and if so, how do I license this individual VM to adhere to licensing requirements?

Many thanks

desktop pool tags and cloud pod architecture

We are in the process of setting up CPA, but I've run into an issue with desktop pool tags.  We currently utilize tags to help control external accessibility.  For example, on our internal load balanced connection servers we have a tag configured (let's say "internal-only") then at the desktop pool side we have a connection server restriction configured to use only those connection servers tagged with "internal-only".  This worked great until we attempted to utilize Cloud Pod Architecture.  CPA has been configured, we removed the individual entitlement on the pool and added a global entitlement (so that the user wouldn't see the pool listed twice) and it's as if the tag is being ignored.  The pool can be seen when attempting to access externally.  Remove the global and re-add the local entitlement and it cannot be seen externally.  Has anyone run into this scenario and figured out a fix or an alternative option?  We don't run F5 load balancers so that feature set cannot be used.

Thanks,

Travis

Personas not syncing after update to v6.2

$

We took the plunge and updated from View 5.2 to Horizon 6.2 about 2 months ago. Initially, everything went fairly smoothly, the biggest issue was the new security that is enabled in v6.2. However, we've begun to realize that all is not well. We had a user who had a suspected malware incident, our standard plan is to rename their Persona folder, then copy anything they need over. However, while their new Persona folder was created, it's 100% empty, other than a .lck file. All we are trying to sync is their local appdata folder, as we use Windows Roaming Profiles for the rest of it. New staff members' Personas folders are always empty, and I've begun to suspect that nobody's has updated since we upgraded from 5.2 to 6.2.

I did file a ticket with VMware, however, we haven't made much progress. They did advise to roll the version of VMware tools from v10 to v9.4 under the vague pretense of 'known incompatibilities', which I did, but it didn't help.

After the move from Tools v10 to v9.4, there's actually more issues in the VMWVvp.txt log, generally stuff that looks like this:

[24418][05/03/2016 08:10:56:0128][RTOLogon!VMWQueryEA       ] No EAs Found: File: \Users\user

I don't see these strings in the logs that I have when we were running on v10.

The other thing I find strange is this line:

[0][05/03/2016 07:53:44:0234][CRedirectedFolders::Load  ] Failed Opening SOFTWARE\Policies\VMware, Inc.\VMware VDM\Persona Management\Service\Redirected Folders, 0x80070002

I've confirmed there is no 'Persona Management' key in the VMware VDM key in the registry.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I've attached the complete log.

VMware View 6.2 is just a catastrophe

Hi all,

I have several Problems with my VDI at 2 Locations. At the Moment we ware running Version 6.2.2.

The VD Pool is a linked clone pool with sysprep. After a recompose i have different Problems:

- over 50% of the Desktops stuck in customizing for hours. after that they are deleted. when i log on a stucked Desktop, Windows wants to restart. a Manual restart doesn't Change anything. it's still stucked.

- when i do a recompose of a single Desktop, the VM boots, but the NIC is not connected.

- when a recompose was successfull after some tries, it sometimes happens when a user wants to log on, that the local Administrator is logged on.

i think that were the main issues for the Moment. im really getting tired of this.

View composer in different domain

I have a current management vCenter that is running my View Servers, View Composer and VDI VC.  the VC is in domain A and I have connected View Manager to this VC with no issues.  I have now deployed View Composer into domain B and am trying to get this working with my View setup.  I go to reconfigure my vCenter Server and have set to use a Standalone View Composer Server. I have added the FQDN and a service account that is a local admin on the View Composer Server.  Checking the certificate gives me the self signed cert and I accept this.  Next I add my domain that I want to create the VDI machines under and give it credentials for this domain which saves succesfully.  When I click OK to try to save the new View Composer settings I get a java.lang.NullPointerException error and am unable to save my settings.  My 2 domains do not have a trust between them, however my vCenter user account has full admin rights on my vCenter so I believe this should work.

How do I get my View environment to take the View Composer settings?

Upgrade from 6.0.0 to 6.2.2

Hi,

We have a small View environment that has been ok, but today it failed when when we did a recompose, and it seems its because of our esxi hosts are upgraded and the view solution is old.

We want to upgrade fra 6.0.0 -> 6.2.2, is that supported, or do I have to upgrade to 6.0.1 first and so on ?

Please could you provide some documentations regarding the upgrade, step by step.

Thanks.

Default printer is not remembered in VDI

Hi,

we have vmware vSphere6 and VDI desktop infrastructure. Every time user loggs in into VDI his default printer is not the printer which it made default in previous login. Vm pool is Automated Desktop Pool with source vCenter (linked clone). This happens on win8 or win10, it doesn't matter.

I found this in discussion:

I found the sollution eventually.

Its realated to the "network location awareness" service

2 options:

[s]1. (for every user) disable the "Network Location Awareness" Service in the services console and include it in your gold image

(i believe its related to: every guest generates there own network ID, if the ID is different NLA sets the default printer to the system default (which in my case is the PDF creator)[/s] (sorry guys, this was NOT the sollution)

2. If you do not want to disable the NLA service,  Do it on a per-user base in the current user registry (see below)

Create a Key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers ... named: Defaults

Then create an entry (string value): Disabled and set it to: 1

--- printer_per_user.reg ----

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Defaults]
"Disabled"="1"

but registry editing and disabling service didn't helped. Any more ideas?

4.6.1 SSL Certificate Change

At the moment, I am running an instance of VMware View 4.6.1. It currently has a SHA1 SSL certificate configured. I have an existing SHA256 certificate that I would like to replace the SHA1. After researching some methods and documentation, I have been unsuccessful in making this switch.

Under C:/Program Files/VMware View/Server/sslgateway/conf it looks like the vdm.p12 file is what I need to change. The timestamp on this file matches the start date on my SHA1 certificate down to the minute. How do I go about making my new SHA256 certificate work with this file?

Thanks

6.2.1 and Catia issue

We run Catia to open files from customers. Have a shared license server and everything works great on 5.2 Horizon View.

But, Im moving over to 6.2.1 and the new drivers for both Vmware tools and 6.2.1 agent dont allow Catia to even start up.

running PCoIP on Samsung Zero clients in a floating linked clone pool.

I think its a display driver issue maybe.

Is it possible to run my older agent and make it work on 6.2.1?

I read about TLS1.0 and making some regedits, so 6.2.1 can talk to older client/agent, but not sure if I want to go down this route.

Just throwing out some ideas and seeing if anybody else had simliar issues with 6.2.1.

Hi All,

Having trouble with a couple VM's in a pool.  I recomposed most of the desktops ion this pool but there are a couple that will not.  Getting the error "Failed ti delete VM - Null" when trying to delete it.  Get the error "View Composer Fault: Could not find VC object of type VirtualMachine, and id (please check the master VM/snapshot or its replica) " when trying to recompose.  i tried to create another snapshot and recompose but get the same error.  I am able to refresh the computer and get it so that it is Available.  Any help, questions or comments are welcome.

Wondering if anyone has updated to Horizon View 7?  Are there major differences?  I am currently running 6.1.1 and debating on updating to 6.2.2 or if I should just go to 7.

Thanks in advance for any replies
