CDR - Client Drive Redirection Timeout?

$

0

I have a customer that is using CDR in their 6.1.1 environment. They are using F5 load balancers in the place of security servers. If users share a drive to their session over PCoIP, it works fine, however if they leave their session alone for 45 minutes or longer, the drives disappear and you have to disconnect/reconnect to get the drives to show back up.

We have tried restarting the tsdrvdisvc service, but the drives do not reappear.

Looking through the logs, we see that the TsdrLogger is set to INFO. I'm not sure how to change this logging level to get more info. But while it is still set to INFO, we see that the socket is closing gracefully, (I'll post the log when it happens again, having to wait 45 minutes)

So, a couple questions here:

  1. How do I change the TsdrLogger logging level?
  2. Why are the drives disappearing?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Using an RFIDeas Reader and Caradigm Client to authenticate to view session via Teradici Zero Client

Hi and thanks for reading my post.

I have recently started work on a SSO project with the Caradigm solution.  In an ideal world I would have liked to link this with our Teradici Zero client so that a user and tap their card and get logged into a session.  I've done some research and it appears that the pre authentication with the Teradici Terminals requires a username and password and cannot accept just the tap card string.  I've also been told we should be able to install a tap server into our caradigm solution and this should allow us to tap a card and authenticate to the Teradici Zero Clients.  With what I've got at the moment I've managed bridge the prox reader, to disable SSO and use my tap card to authenticate into windows, then lock and unlock the session.  This all works fine until somebody else uses their card or I click switch user.  When this happens the session disconnects and puts me back to the Zero client authentication.  I'm sure this must be something really simple I've missed so grateful for any help.  I just what the Zero client to stop disconnecting so I can switch users inside the windows session.  Cheers

Horizon View Client install on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS x64?

Has anyone been able to get the Horizon View Client (VMware-Horizon-Client-3.5.0-2999900.x64.bundle) to successfully run on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS x64?

I was able to get the all to install fine after linking the to with the command. The SCAN all comes back successful. The app opens fine. I am able to connect to View Server. I am also able to see the VDI. But when I try to connect to it, I get kicked out and see this message in the terminal window.

Horizon 7 Radius Authentication Problems

Has anyone had success with configuring RADIUS 2-Factor Auth on Horizon View 7?  I've been attempting to setup Duo on our pre-production HV7 environment and have had little success.

When trying to authenticate with 2-Factor enabled I receive a "Error Encountered While Authenticating" Alert from the Horizon Client.  A packet capture on the connection server shows no activity to or from our RADIUS server, its almost as if something in the application stack is broken.

Attached is a sample of what I've found in the debug logs, noting that there is an error at 2016-05-18T11:03:51.090-04:00 "Error setting up/performing authentication net.propero.portal.filters.ProperoAuthFilter.doFilter(SourceFile:472) java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException" and another at 2016-05-18T11:03:51.091-04:00  "Finished processing: submit-authentication, Result: error, Error Code: BROKER_DISABLED, Error Message: this broker currently disabled, User Message: Error encountered while authenticating".  I have submitted a ticket with VMware, but I'm curious to see if anyone else is experiencing the issue, this is a freshly built environment and not an upgrade from 6.

strange problem with permissions and entitlements on Horizon 7

This is a strange problem.

i have added three users to entitlements on 2 View VMs.  I can access the VM, but other users cannot.

All firewall ports are open because my account can access the VMs.

However, the two other users cannot.

This is not my first rodeo, so this is not a dumb mistake on my part.

Is this a bug?

View Agent breaks RDP connection

I have remote access to a machine that is being configured as a template for a new View implementation and have found that when I install the View Agent I can no longer RDP to the machine.  RDP is still enabled on the machine but I am just getting a 'This computer cannot connect to the remote computer' message when trying to connect.  Is this by design and is there a workaround?

Linked Clone pools task "Reconfigure virtual machine"

Hi,

In my infrastructure with vSphere 6 UP2 and VMware Horizon 7 I have this issue:

When I build a linked clone pool at the end of the process the VMs, in vSphere stay many minutes in "reconfigure virtual machine" task after that the VMs are correctly deployed. In the same time Horizon Task for the VM is: "Creating Refresh Checkpoint"

During the task "reconfigure virtual machine"  I have many cores of host CPUs with 100% usage.

I try with different parent VMs and OSs but the issue persist.
I try another host ESXi but nothing changes.
The issue don't change even with "Storage Acceleration" and "Reclaim Disk Space"  options disabled.

My CPU are n.2

E5-2660 v3 @ 2.60GHz

Thank You

Mic input not recognized on Win7 HVD run from Horizon View Client on Ubuntu 16.04, but is from 14.04

I run Ubuntu VMs on my CentOS laptop.  I run the Horizon View client from the Ubuntu VM. I connect to a Win7 Hosted Virtual Desktop from the Horizon View Client.  On the Win7 HVD, I use a USB headset connected to the laptop for conference calls, both speaking and hearing.

In all cases, I can hear what's said on calls.

If I use the Ubuntu 14.04 VM, I can also use the microphone on the HVD so people can hear me talk.

However, if I'm using the Ubuntu 16.04 VM (or 15.10), no one can hear me talk.  I've also tested this capability using Audacity.

I can verify that on the VM itself, the microphone is recognized, and Audacity is able to record my voice.

I've restarted everything in the chain multiple times.  I can go back and forth between the 14.04 and 16.04 VMs, and this behavior is consistent.

Windows 10 Start Menu with Persona Management

We're just now starting to work with Windows 10 and View. I have a system running View 6.2.2 and Windows 10. We are using Persona Management (PM). We have our GPO set on the master and NOT in AD. When I log in I create a pinned item in the Task bar, I rearrange the tiles on the Start menu and create a new folder on my desktop.  Then I log out and I've confirmed that View has fully let go of my user and then I log in again.  Everything is there EXCEPT the tile arrangement in the Start menu is gone and in fact all of the Most Used items on the left is gone and at the bottom, I'm only left with Power and All Apps.  Is there a way to have PM keep the things the users do with the Start menu?

Software printers not creating in View 6.2

$

We are using View 6.2.1 (without AppStacks) and are having an issue with some software printers (PDF printers, and printers created by LOB applications).  When users log in to non-persistent desktops, sometimes the printers are missing, sometimes some of them are missing, and sometimes they are all there.  It's not consistent on a per user, per VM, or per user per VM basis.  For example, yesterday when I logged in, I had neither my PDF printer, or my ImageRight printer (Imageright is a document management system... details aren't likely relevant). Today I logged in and have the ImageRight printer, but not the PDF printer.  Sometimes, I have the PDF printer, but not the ImageRight printer.

Has anyone encountered anything like this?  The ImageRight one happens to not be a huge deal because we can provide the users instructions to quickly reinstall it, but the PDF printer and other LOB applications require much larger re-installations, and it's not feasible to do that daily for everyone.  If it matters, we're using PDFXchange for the PDF printer, but since it happens with all of the application printers, i doubt that's part of the problem.

I haven't tried persistent desktops. All of these printers work fine in our old Terminal Server environment (XenApp); this issue is only affecting the VDI environment.

Any guidance would be immensely appreciated.

Thanks

Dylan

URL Content Redirection - Use cases?

$

Hi,

I thought I'd reach out to the community to get a view on the feasibility of using a feature such as URL Content Redirection in Horizon 7. Whilst on paper, it sounds like a benefit to offload URL clicks/entries to sites such as YouTube so as to place the overhead on a ThinClient for example, there are many user experience caveats/complexities. For example, if you are using a full screen VDI session, upon attempts to access YouTube, the local browser does successfully appear in front of your active session to continue use of the redirected site, but if you minimize the window, you are helpless to bring it back as the ALT-TAB you issue is sent to the VDI session, not the underlying device and therefore your users have no method of regaining control of the local browser the VDI session called. Making a comparison to Citrix, their local application access technique successfully integrates the locally run application into the taskbar of the VDI session, allowing you to transparently use the application as if it was genuinely hosted within the Virtual Desktop.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but unless you operate a Windowed virtual desktop (and therefore present two taskbars/start menus, which brings a whole new level of complexity for the end user), I'm struggling to understand how the feature at this stage of development would even stand the test of time in a production environment.

I look forward to hearing other peoples views or successes/failures with this "feature".

Thanks

Andrew

Security Server vs vIDM

I am looking to implement Horizon/View 7.  I am torn between using a Security Server vs vIDM.  I see the benefits of the vIDM, and leaning towards that solution.  Is there any reason why I should still take the Security Server into consideration?

Why Should Clients Be Forcibly Disconnected?

$

I see a lot of discussion about why clients are forcibly disconnected, and the different techniques that can be implemented to manage this, one of which being to set the View environment to never forcibly disconnect client sessions (assuming of course that either a) the client supports this or b) you disable session timeouts for legacy clients via the published KB article).

What I can't seem to find is a good explanation as to why you should implement a forcible disconnect policy. I can understand a disconnect policy based on some period of idleness, but to have a blanket timeout that says "regardless if you're actively working, you will be interrupted in 10, 12, 20, etc hrs" seems ludicrous. Especially for zero clients that don't support any sort of session "keep alives", the obvious solution then is to implement the backdoor session disable for legacy clients mentioned above, especially in circumstance when we don't have a predictable "reconnect" interval. So why not just disable timeouts globally then? There has to be some reason or use case as to why it's a good idea, and I've LOVE to hear it. What's the logic behind having a non-state-aware disconnect timer? Is it to maintain adequate Connection Server performance? Is it a security feature (ie: to mitigate risk of session hijacking)? Something entirely different?

Trouble installing Horizon 4.0.1 x64 Client on Win7 Enterprise

$

Hello Community,

i just tried to install horizon client 4.0.1.781 x64 on my windows 7 Enterprise machine with IPv4.

At a certain point in the wizard on the user defined setup page I cannot continue to the next step. I left everything at default values. But also deselecting the extra components does not help.

I do have enough disk space (80 GB) on C:

The disk usage window confirms, that only 147 MB are required and 80 GB are available. And the window does not highlight Drive C: as having too little disk space.

I find it strange that the suggested installation directory is und C:\Program Files (x86)\VMWare\VMWare Horizon View Client\ although I downloaded the 64 bit client. But also changing the target directory to the C:\Program Files\... does not change the behaviour.

There are no error messages to be seen, just the "Next" button does not react. Has anyone got any idea, what I am missing?

I am a member of the Administrators group on the machine. The Operating System language is German.

Any hints, what else I could check are appreciated.

Hi,

A customer added a connection server to the two already in place and after that desktop provisioning is halted.

All services are running, all url's are accessible but desktop keep in deleted state.

The only error we see in the console is under cloud pod - which has not been configured -

I've done a search and looked with adsiedit but so far failed to find any clue.

Horizon View 6.2.

nothing changed at composer side only added on replica connection server that is running fine.

Windows 10 VMs show as "Available" in Admin Console, even while users are logged on

$

Hello,

I have the situation where a bunch of persistent Windows 10 VDI VM's (multiple pools, all 1 VM per manual pool) are ALWAYS shown as "Available" in View Admin, even when there is a user logged on. Using RDP or PCoIP does not matter.

Description:

- The entire time, the desktop never shows up as "connected" in View Admin when users log on. It is always "Available" which is dead wrong in the first place.

- Using PCoIP allows disconnects -> re-connects with PCoIP or RDP.

- Using RDP at some stage however, triggers the "all available desktop sources for this desktop are currently busy" message in View clients. Cannot re-connect at all anymore from that point onwards, regardless of protocol used.

- Again, these Win10 VM's still show as "available" regardless of the actual status.

- There are no Firewalls between the Windows 10 VM's and the Connection brokers (who have no replication problems).

- Restarting the View agent and related services does not "free up" the VM. It will still say "all available desktop sources for this desktop are currently busy".

- Only a reboot of the OS can clear this and make the VM available for login again.

- While the VM is rebooting or powered off, the desktop shows as "Agent unreachable" so there is communication between Agents and Brokers.

Windows 7 persistent VM's work 100% normal in all respects. It's only Windows 10 VM's and...   ...since a patch-round from a couple of weeks ago (i've been troubleshooting this problem since then). Before whatever patch did this (but have no proof) these Windows 10 VM's worked fine with View 6.2.0

These VM's are highly personalized with special software and cannot be simply rebuild. I did re-install VMtools, View Agent etc. etc. several times. No dice. Even tried a fresh Install of Windows (patched to same level), still shows this behavior.

All this started a few weeks back after a Microsoft Patch round. So maybe a M$ Patch affected the View Agent. I therefore uninstalled/re-installed the View 62 Agent. Upgraded it from 6.2 to 6.2.2  etc. all to no avail. VMtools new, old, Agents re-installed. I tried everything by now.

Has anyone seen this or can anyone point me in the right direction for troubleshooting? I have noticed no funky stuff in the logs but I'm probably tunnel-visioning/searching the wrong things after all this time.

I've been doing View since the early days but I'm really baffled this time. I'm all out of ideas.
