The other day i was doing a routine recompose to push new updates and virus stuff, and it had some problems and i was up until midnight getting it use able for the people in the morning who come in before i do and need there zero clients to clock in and work..

So its only one pool having the problem,

Error during provisioning:View Composer Fault: Unexpected VC fault from View Composer (Unknown) - Unknown -

The pool is for 9 machines, and right now i only have 6

My question is how do i get those machines back? Recomposing didn't seem to rebuild them.. Or do i have a Composer problem?

Thanks, i was going to call VMware but everytime i get ready to make a long call someone needs my help..

Horizon Client Issue

I've noticed an extremely maddening issue with the Horizon View Client (3.2.0): I have three monitors on my desktop system, and when I have the Horizon client up, any time that I minimize or close any other window on one of my other monitors, the Horizon client will snatch my pointer back from where it was - so if, for example, I have 10 windows on my left monitor to either close or minimize, and the Horizon client is on my right monitor, after each close or minimize, I will have to move my pointer from the right monitor, across the center and over to the left. It's maddening.

Has anyone else seen this, and maybe know how to stop it?

View with Zero Clients

I have VMware view 6.0.2/3 running. I have an issue where a couple users who connect using a p25 or p45 zero client and have slight performance issues over time. When we switch them to a thick client aka their PC running Horizon View Client then the problem subsides. I am thinking it is graphics related because we have APEX workload accelerators in the hosts but no graphics acceleration. Thoughts?

Thank You

Horizon Client SSO stops working after locking screen

$

Hello,

I just came across a weird problem with the Horizon Client and Single Sign-On.

When I'm using the Horizon Client to connect to a desktop (linked clone), lock the Windows session, disconnect and then reconnect to the desktop, I'm presented with the Windows lock screen instead of being logged in automatically. The lock screen doesn't show the Ctrl+Alt+Del prompt though, so it looks like the SSO component already "pressed" Ctrl+Alt+Del but couldn't proceed with signing in.

When I restart the Horizon Client I can successfully connect to the desktop again (with SSO).

This doesn't happen with Zero Clients (Dell Wyse P25) or HTML Access.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Horizon Client and connect to the View Connection Server
  2. Enter credentials
  3. Connect to a desktop by selecting one of the assigned pools
  4. Inside the session go to Start > Click the arrow next to Shut down > Lock
  5. Disconnect from the desktop by closing the session window (the main Horizon Client window is still open though!)
  6. From the main screen of the Horizon Client, re-connect to the desktop that was just locked
(Note: It actually doesn't matter to which desktop pool you'll connect, at this point SSO won't even work on desktops you haven't manually locked. So essentially, once you lock the screen in any Horizon Client session, SSO will stop working on any subsequent connections until the Horizon client is being restarted.)
  7. You're presented with the Windows lock screen instead of being logged-in automatically

This is on Horizon View 6.1 with Client version 3.3.0.

Both "Discard SSO credentials" settings in the View Administrator are set to "Never".

Again, this problem doesn't occur when connecting through Zero Clients or HTML Access, so to me it looks like a bug within the Horizon Client.

Anything I might have missed?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards

Dan

View VMware Virtual Audio (DevTap) volume settings.

$

Hi All.

A user has requested that the sound volume settings is saved when she logs off and on again.

I thought  that these settings are saved with the hardware device reg keys.

So I thought the settings would be saved under ”HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class”.

But for some reason I can’t find the correct reg keys.

I tried using tools like regmon and a persistent desktop  to find the exact location  of where these setting are being saved but until this moment I have had no luck with it.

Does anybody have any idea where I should look to find the correct reg key’s ?

We are atm using view 5.3 with windows 7 vm’s.

We are using non persistent desktop pool.

Sound device = VMware Virtual Audio (DevTap)

If any further information is required please ask and I'll be happy to provide it

Input language Syncronization

Hello,

apparently the PCoIP input language syncornisation works only if the view client runs on windows.

In linux clients and mac clients this feature is not available, I'm correct? Is this documented somewhere?

Hello,

is there a way to have a VDI in full screen on a single monitor only on mac? On the windows and linux client it's possible to select how the desktop will be displayed but there is no such feature on the mac client.

Persistent disk is inaccessible

I have a couple pools that are set up the same way with persistent disks. I have some users that, when trying to login, get "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded." as an error, not allowing them to login with domain creds. When I log in as a local admin, I see that I don't have permissions to the persistent disk, which is where the user profiles are pointed.

Is this a profile problem or some kind of configuration problem?

The GPOs fore removable media/storage were not configured. I did set them to disabled so that they wouldn't block anything, but still no luck.

Persona Management problem - breaked permissions on remote profile folder

Hi all,

Hi a have a View 5.1 environment with persona management in some pools.

The problem is that sometimes the permissions on the user folder on the remote profile share become messed.

It happens randomly.

The user profile folder in the remote folder share looses the user permission, it  stays only with the parent folder permissions.

When this happens the user login but gets a temp profile ...

I manually redefine the permissions and all works well again.

Does someone know what can be the problem?

Thanks.

Automatic restart after user logoff

Hello everyone

Is there a built in settings that a VM restarts after a user loggoff?

I know there is the possability to "ensure desktop is always powered on" which means when a user power off the machine it will reboot but we do not allow a user to to this just log off and even with this settings the machine remains in power on state.

Do you have an idea or ways to realise this need?

I am asking due to we have problems with the machines regarding KMS and trust breaks between clients and domain. If we reboot them manually the errors are gone.

Thank you all and best regards

Horizon 6.1.1 Slowness/Latency Issues Since Upgrading from 5.3.3

$

Has anyone else seen poor performance issues since upgrading to 6.1 or 6.1.1?  We have user complaints coming in across the board (local and branch offices across all pools) of latency like issues (choppiness, slowness, lag etc...) that resemble PCoIP latency or loss type issues.  I have used vROps to look at the environment but I can't see anything that stands out.  View hosts resources, connection server, security server, persona repo, SQL server resources, SAN all look good.  I can't seem to put my finger on it.

Snapshot changes are not being applied.

We have a new Horizon View 6 system we are beta testing.

Our current problem is that we have our master VM. We have our snapshots but when we recompose OR create our desktop pools they do not seem to be getting the changes we made during the snapshots.

For example, we places icons on the desktop and they do not appear.

We have custom software we use that we modified a .bat file to suit our needs, this file only appears as the original installed file, and not the one we replaced it with.

Any advice, clues would be greatly appreciated.

When users attempt to reconnect to desktops in the morning, desktop is not responding, has to be restarted in vCenter

Hello!

Since we updated to View 6.1 (and also to 6.1.1) we have the problem that every day around 4 different people from over 100 have reconnect problem in the morning. During the day we have no problems?!?

When they want to connect to their View desktop, Windows 7 pro craches and teh Desktop is powered off. After this craches the Desktop will not start automatically by the user when he try to reconnect. Only over the vCenter we can start this desktops? We use Dell Wyse Zero Clients with the newest patches. Anybody has an idea? In the Windows logfiles we see nothing. The VMware support need very longtime for answers, until now we have no solution.

Stop Numlock from automatically enabling on some clients?

$

Hello!

I fear this might be a strange edge-case, but is anyone aware of a way to stop numlock from automatically enabling on Horizon View clients? Most of our terminals and PCs have access to a full numpad, so numlock is set to auto-enable on the VM's bios. We're introducing some HP mobile thinclients that have that annoying number pad over the keyboard, meaning users have to manually disable numlock every time they log in if they want to actually type something. Is there anything client-side I can do to stop numlock from enabling? I've combed through the registry, vdm_client.adm template, and googled for some config.ini options but couldn't find anything. Disabling numlock on the thinclient's BIOS doesn't work since VMware doesn't seem to need the button to send the numlock command.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

vmware view 6.1 zero client to windos 2012 r2 usb disk on key does not show up

$

Hello

I can't get the usb key to work from a zero client to a windows 2012 r2 session.

Our setup:

Client:

Teradici Zero Clients, firmware 4.8,

Connection via:

VMWare Horizon 10.3

On the VMWare Horizon policy it shows under "Global Policies": USBAccess Allow

Server:

Windows Server 2012 R2,, using VMWare View Agent 6.1.1 software via PCOIP

Setup works terrific, including HD video/sound.

But connecting a USB disk-on-key to the zero client, it does not show up on the desktop.

There is no message in the Windows event log, I added 32111 to the incoming firewall connections allowed.

When running the same via Horizon View Client on Windows 7 I get a bar at the top of the screen with "Options, Connect Usb Device, Send Ctrl-Alt-Delete"

Here the disk-on-key shows up immediately as a Removable Disk.

Please advise how to setup/debug

David

6.1.1 Connection Server with 5.3.0 agents issue

$

We're currently running View 5.3.0 in our production environment. I'm testing the upgrade to View 6.1.1, and according to the compatibility matrix, a 6.1.1 connection server should work with agents running 5.3.0, at least for the upgrade period. However, if I recreate pools for the VMs on the 6.1.1 connection server without upgrading the agent on the VM, I just get "Error". Not "Agent Unreachable", just "Error". I'm definitely able to ping the connection server from the VM. I should also mention these are manual pools, if that makes a difference.
