Desktop not saving changes for End users
End users make changes to their desktops like rearranging icons and grouping them according to how they feel fit. But, the next day when they boot up these changes are reset. Is there a way to make these changes stay?
How to install the view agent on windows image and upload to connection server?
Hello, I am running a trial to test on this Horizon View. If my employers like it they will implement it. I installed and configured : composer, connection, and security server.
I have created a Win 7 64-bit image and did the optimization for it. I am trying to figure out how to install a view agent on it and to upload it into connection server. i read the manuals from online but maybe my eyes are tired that i did not catch that. How do I proceed to the next level so i can launch and test on a Wyse client?
Anybody else experiencing Horizon 2.1 causing macs to run out of startup disk space?
We have been putting our users on 2.1 since it came out. Lately, we have had a few mac users who are heavy VM users get this problem. Their startup disk space on their mac fills up and freezes their computer. I empty their caches and make sure they have plenty of room on their hard drives, but it seems as though the view client is causing this problem. Maybe it has a memory leak? has anybody else experienced this issue?
Thanks.
Safely Removing Replicas from Datastore in vSphere
My appologies if this has been answered multiple times before, but didn't see an answer to my exact question when searching.
I'm trying to clear up the datastores and it appears to me that if there is a replica folder in a datastore but not listing for that replica when you look at the VMs on the datastore, that it means that replica is not being used. Is that correct? It seems that only the ones being actively used show up in the VMs list.
If so, I'm just going to clear out the replicas not listed in VMs from the datastore.
Thanks,
Edit VMware Connection Server Settings
Hello,
I have a VMware View 5.0 and I am experiencing an issue with our internal web proxy that has been recently in place. We are using a wpad.dat file for our machines to automatically detect our proxy web server. This wpad.dat is configured to automatically connect directly to internal servers and not go through the proxy.
I should also mention that only 443 (HTTPS) and 80 (HTTP) traffic go through the proxy all other protocols connect directly.
I have noticed that in the VMware View Configuration -> Servers-> then View Connections Servers if I Edit under the general tab I can see the IP address of our connection server. I am wondering if I can change this to a DNS name instead of an IP address if it would fix our error message.
"The View Connection Server authentication Failed Could not connect through proxy server ....Please check your proxy settings"
Does this cause any downtime/disconnections when I change this to a DNS name?
Do I need to restart any services when I change it?
Thanks for helping,
Ryan
Mismatch between View Desktop Pool Desktops and AD machine account names
Hi all,
I've run into a problem with a VMware View 5.2 testing environment I look after. I've been trying to recompose a pool after making changes to the base image. When I try to designate the latest snapshot, I get an AD authentication error. After some more investigation I've noticed there seems to be a mismatch between the naming pattern for the pool and the AD accounts that exist for the VDI desktops. In View administrator, the naming pattern is set to "vdi-tst". In Desktops in View Administrator, the desktops seem to follow this naming convention with vdi-tst1, vdi-tst2, etc. However, when I go into AD, there's no matching account names. The only ones I can find are with the naming format of "vdi-stg" (which is the naming format of a different and seperate testing environment).
Could this mismatch be the cause of the AD authentication error I'm getting? And is there a way to fix it? Thanks.
RSA SecurID SID800 - VMware View 5.1 and Windows 7
Hi,
We are using RSA SecurID SID800 for our two factor authentication.
We don't have problem on Windows XP and Zero Clients but have problem with Windows 7 and same Zero Client.
The device is bridged and detected by Windows but RSA authentication client can't detect that.
I use newer version of that but device wan't detect by the client.
How can I use the security device with PCoIP USB redirection on Windows 7?
SSL and View 5.2
We're currently running 5.1 and I'm reading the upgrade guide for 5.2. https://pubs.vmware.com/view-51/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/view-51-upgrades.pdf
I came across the SSL section of the guide (page 12 near the bottom) and discovered the "requirement" for CA signed SSL certs, but it says for 5.1. I didn't do the upgrade to 5.1 but I'm confused now. If the requirement started for 5.1, but my installation works fine, then this requirement must be for remote access only (which we do not/won't utilize)? Clarification appreciated.
changed domain admin password
Since we changed our domin admin password, whenever virtual center servies and view composer services are started, the domain admin account keep getting locked out. I alredy changed the service account for virtual center. But still domain account keeps getting locked out.
any idea?
View 5.1 USB redirection over the internet?
Hi folks,
I am using View 5.0 (preinstalled) client on a WES7 thin client connecting to a View 5.1 security server and Win7 VM over PCoIP.
If I connect on my LAN USB redirection of my Flash drives work fine.
If I connect from the internet they do not. No hardware detection, does not show up in my computer at all.
One of them flashes like it wants to connect but does not.
Should I expect USB redirection to work well over the internet like this?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
romatlo
SSD Replica RAID Level
What's the recommended RAID level for SSDs when used as replica disks? I have 4 200GB SSDs and debating between RAID 10 and RAID 5.
Connected client name
I want to capture the connected client name from remote sessions for reporting purposes, however, I have been unable to find this stored in ADAM, the event database, or any logs I have looked through, so far. I know the agent stores this in HKCU under "ViewClient_Machine_Name" on the actual VM, but does anybody know if this is ever reported or noted on any of the server logs or databases?
I noticed that the client MAC address is reported as the Client ID in the View Admin web GUI, but I do not know where it is pulling that from. Does anybody know where that is stored, and if there is a way to change what is reported as the Client ID (I am assuming it is the agent that reports this)?
Thanks for your time!

Security server problem
Hello.
I have connection server (conn.domain.ru) in corporate LAN and newly installed security server(sec.domain.ru, it's not in AD, just in local DNS with local ip) in DMZ. Security server is NATed to internet with piblic ip and DNS name(the same as in corporate LAN - sec.domain.ru, but public ip). All connections to local connection server (conn.domain.ru) works fine. When i tried to connect to security server from corporate LAN using DMZ ip, i received an error - the connection to the remote computer ended. HTML access work fine. From WAN i have tested connection from android device. I received an error - lost connection to the server.
As i understand the problem is between security server and connection server, because i received errors in corporate LAN. We uses CISCO ASA. All ports between security server and connection serverare open (rule look like - ip any allowed). What can cause such problems?
I've just tested I can connect to the desktop from security server via RDP
Thanks in advance.
Agent unreachable
Within a pool, we have the required 1 desktop available at all times set, however that desktop always shows as agent unreachable. It can be powered down, at which point it will show as Provisioned, but once powered up, it shows as Agent Unreachable. If any other desktops are added, it always shows the available powered up desktop as Agent Unreachable. Is there a way of resolving this, hopefully that doesn't involve taking any too drastic action with the pool itself.
Delay the disconnect time when logging off using zero clients.
I currently run VMware view 4.6. I have 99% of the network on zero clients (Dell FX100 and Clearcubes). When a user logs off of their session, they are immediately disconnected at the zero client and the vmware runs its normal log off scripts. This has not been a problem up until now.
We have implemented Smart Cards on the network and I have been asked to implement a "Smart Card removal banner" when the users log off (normally put in a logoff script), as they often forget and leave their cards in the terminal when they leave. However, since they are immediately disconnected, they do not see anything that runs after they hit that log off button.
Is there any way to set the sessions to wait for 10-15 seconds after hitting the log off button before they disconnect?
Error during provisioning: Could not open/create change tracking file
I am receiving this error when making linked cloned desktops in a non-persistent pool. This KB article seems like it applies:
Should I:
- Delete all the snapshots from the base dekstop
- Turn off change block tracking on the base desktop
- Take a snapshot on the base desktop
- Recompose the 340 desktops using this new snapshot
The part of the KB that is confusing is the "Ensure that there are no snapshots on the parent virtual machine". Does this refer to the snapshot that I create and use in composer to spin up clones or does this refer to the snapshot that composer makes as it gets ready to spin up clones?
How do I configure dns, fw, and security server for external tablet usage?
Good morning all.
I have installed and configure the security server for vmware view.
I am able to use network devices to access the view desktops, I would like to set up for external tablets to connect through security server to access the view desktops.
How do i go about this.
I followed these instructions by one vmware tech, he can't fully assist because I am running on demo mode.
I do not want to pay for the complete package until I know it works best for our company.
After I have it running our company owners will play with the tablets and WYSE terminals before approval to purchase vware view and thinapp.
Below is what I did per vmware technician's brief instructions:
"in order to setup the front-end firewall correctly to allow traffic from the WAN to the Security Server. You will also need a NAT rule to map an external IP address to the Security Server's internal IP. Lastly, you will need a DNS address (for example view.domain.com) that resolves to that IP address. At this point, you can set the External URLs in the Security Server to the DNS name or external IP address (HTTPS and Blast will be DNS, PCoIP will be IP). External connections should work at this point."
I went to my server and created a nat policy with external private ip : xxx.xxx.xxx.123(one of our unused external private ips) to point to our internal security server ip address of : xxx.xxx.xxx.99(an example, not the real one).
Attached is a pic of the settings. I used terminal services as the original source, I am not sure if that is correct.
On my DNS server I created a new host called view.mywebsitedomainname.com ( i hope that was correct).
I used the a record and pointer to our security server ip address.
When I checked with my iPad to use a browser to access : view.mywebsitedomainname.com
it states server can not be found. If i use the client it asks for the connection server ip address and that does not connect either.
What steps or settings am I top use to get this running.
All i have is 30 days left on my usage of this trial version and about 10 days left on 3 of the windows servers i did not register because I did not purchase them yet. Do not want to buy anything until management approves that they like the vmware view environment.
Any help to guide me in final configuration will be great.
I am new to vmware and not an expert in IT, i am a self-learn.
Thank you
Problems with View Agent 5.2 VMware SVGA II driver 11.9.1.0 and vmx_fb.dll?
Have approx 1500 Windows XP SP3 linked-clones and persistent desktops.
Upgraded from ESXi 5.0 Update 2 and View 5.1.3 to ESXi 5.1.0 1065491 and Horizon View 5.2 and updated the master image to hardware version 9 with View Agent 5.2, VMware Tools version 9.0.5.21789 build 1065307, and using VMware SVGA II Driver 11.9.1.0.
Randomly when a user connects for the first time, or reconnects to their existing session, they are greed with a black PCoIP screen. Looking at the desktop's VM console, we see a 640x480 resolution with 8-bit color. Inspecting the System event log shows entries with "Application popup: : \SystemRoot\System32\vmx_fb.dll failed to load". We know vmx_fb.dll is related to the VMware SVGA II driver. A reboot does not fix it - upon reboot of a persistent desktop, the VM comes up in the same unusable state.
If we (on a persistent desktop) uninstall agent, reboot, uninstall tools, reboot, install tools, reboot, install agent, reboot, then the problem is corrected and the desktop is usable again.
This happens randomly, is not reproducible, and occurs maybe 15-20 times a day in a user population of 1500. We are experimenting with rolling back the SVGA driver to the 11.7.20.0 version from View 5.1.3 that we were using previously (VMware KB: The PCoIP server log reports the error: Error attaching to SVGADevTap, error 4000: EscapeFailed ). It has been tested and works, so we have a group using a pool composed with the older driver for the week to see how it goes.
Has anyone encountered any similar issue? We have opened a case with Support.
