We have 5 ESXi 6 hosts in a single cluster. We have about 200 View 7 desktops delivered with this setup and just brought up our first RDS server to do app delivery. Is it best practice to use the same cluster and same vCenter server for View desktops as well as RDS servers for app delivery?
View desktops & RDS hosts in same cluster using same vCenter?
Writables Not Attaching on New Host
We recently added a couple new Esxi 6.0 hosts to our View environment. One of them works fine but the other one not so much. None of the desktops running on 009 are mounting their writable volumes. Seeing this message in AppVolMan System Messages as well as vCenter:
Insufficient permission to access file
Cannot open the disk '/vmfs/volumes/4a65d764-e74be01c/cloudvolumes/writable/xxxxI!5C!timxxx.wxxxxxx!20!for!20!!22!VDI-xxxx!22!.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.
Failed to power on scsi0:1.
Failed to add disk scsi0:1.
From what I can tell both hosts are configured the same. I can browse the NFS datastore from 009 without issue. If I vMotion the desktop to another host the writable will attach.
Has anyone seen this before? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Published Applications file type associations with Client Device Redirection from UNC/Mapped Network Drives
Hi,
We are looking to deploy published applications with Horizon View 7.0.2 but we seem to be getting a little stuck when trying to open files from the client device via the remote application if the file originated from on a network share.
For example, if I have file in C:\Temp called Hello.XLSX, if I right click and Open With (Excel - Horizon), it will duly go to the RDSH server and open Excel with the file on the client PC.
If however, I try the very same operation from a file that resides on either a UNC path or a mapped drive on the client, it throws up an error, largely in part because the remote app server doesn't have the mapped drive or has trouble understanding how to open a file that isn't technically on the client that originated the request. (within the logs you can see its attempt to open \\tsclient\XXXX but that isn't really going to work with a file that isn't physically on the client.
In the world of Citrix, they permit the use of relative paths so you can call the application with the UNC path (I believe by updating the application publishing variables) also in alignment with a Registry Key, but is there any way of doing this in VMware as all our users documents are stored on DFS and we would rather the users didn't have to open the published application first to then File/Open the document as it means extra button presses, education for the users.
Many thanks
Andrew
Error: HTTP error 400. When connecting to local ESXi 6.5 server on local network with no certificate.
Anyone know why I am receiving this issue? I just need to connect to the VM without the certificate on a local network.
Is this possible?
Am I doing something wrong or is there a step/configuration thing I am missing for this to connect?
I have the default certificate installed from the installer and both my windows horizon and a linux distro horizon gives me the error when I change my preference to "Do not verify server identity certificates." to stop the certificate error.
I am not sure why this isn't working.
Any information would be helpful.
Thanks,
Kyle
Using URIs with VMware Horizon Client for Windows Store UWP
Hello,
Using URIs to launch the VMware Horizon Client application from the Windows Store does not work.
This is documented but does not work: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/horizon-view/horizon-view-client-windows-store-document.pdf
I looked in the AppxManifest.xml file of the UWP application and it did not define any extension with category "windows.protocol".
Is this supported? How to launch the application by URI?

Is it planned to make the application available on the Mac App Store?
View 5.1 Cipher/SSL
I am running view 5.1 with security servers and connection servers. Recently I attempted to lock down the different ciphers and protocols on the internet facing security servers.
I followed the article Configuring cipher suites and security protocols on a VMware View Connection Server instance or Security Server in VMwar…
I created a locked.properties file and saved to the location C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware View\Server\sslgateway\conf
In the file I entered the following info
secureProtocols.1=TLSv1.2
secureProtocols.2=TLSv1.1
secureProtocols.3=TLSv1
secureProtocols.4=SSLv2Hello
enabledCipherSuite.1=TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA
enabledCipherSuite.2=TLS_DHE_DSS_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA
enabledCipherSuite.3=SSL_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA
I made sure there were no spaces or any grammar errors.
Upon restarted all the view security server services clients could no longer connect to the site receiving an ssl error. I also tried to scan the site using a ssl scanner SSL Analyzer and SSL Certificate Checker | COMODO
The site couldn't even connect to scan the certificate anymore after making the change.
I was successful in testing on a different view server but, the version was newer. I believe it was version 6.0.
Anyone have any ideas on what I might of missed? I don't really want to have to upgrade the infrastructure just to secure protocols and ciphers.
Memory reservation
Hi,
is there any official vmware recommendation in the amount of memory to reserve (if any) on VMs dedicated to View ? Are you using any ?
Thank you !
CPA Not Balancing
Horizon 6.2 with Cloud Pod Architecture across 2 Data Centers.
Every since Tuesday of last week, we have been experiencing an issue where CPA does not seem to be balancing our sessions across our 2 data centers. Nothing about the config has changed at all, so, we're not sure what could be the issue. We have a Pod in each of our 2 Data Centers. Each is behind a site LTM, and both those LTMs are behind a site GTM. Since our brokers in DC1 could broker you but send you to a pool in DC2, isn't the F5 really out of the equation? That leads me to believe it's indeed something at the Horizon level.
We could remove pools from our pool global entitlements to manually re-balance, but, we're just curious to identfy why the change. On Monday of last week, we had almost exactly 650 sessions on each side. Day by day though, the counts have shifted. Now in DC1 we have 1200 sessions, and in DC2 we have 145 (down from 175 yesterday).
Thanks in advance.
Multiple Desktop Folders on Storage
We have a 7.0.1 environment and all of our floating pools are set to refresh automatically on logoff. I recently been having issue and while looking around i noticed on my storage that all teh desktop folders in each pool have multiple folders with underscores ( DESKTOP-1, DESKTOP-1_1, DESKTOP-1_2, etc). Is this normal or do i have an issue?? Any suggestions or comments are invited. Thanks
Connecting to Security Server: you are not entitled to use the system
Horizon View 7.0.3. Horizon Client 4.3 I have no any problems when I connect to both Connection Server and Security Server when I use a Domaint Admins group member account. But if I use account which is not member of Domaint Admins group I can't connect to Security Server and I've got the message: "you are not entitled to use the system". It is a problem as users can't connect to their desktops from outside. Tried to find any information using Google but I couldn't find any similar issue.
Any ideas?
Linked clone persistent disk stuck on local storage
I have a Linked clone pool where View Manager says the persistent disk is on local host storage. When I recompose a vm in the pool, or try to delete it I get the error message:
Failed to delete VM - Failed to resolve id of disk '[local storage] vm-006-vdm-user-disk-D-9fa24e1a-e2e5-4227-8ce0-dc6774a12e21.vmdk' from vm-006
When I browse the datastore I do not even see this vmdk. I understand going from a local storage to a NAS for a linked clone might cause trouble and am seeking some help.
I was hoping to detach the persistent disk and reattach it, but I get the above error message. Any help is appreciated.
I CAN create a new vm in the pool no problem and it goes to the NAS. It's just the existing ones.
thanks.
Horizon USB pass through issue
Hi,
I'm experiencing an odd issue when attaching a specific USB device through the VM Horizon View client (v3.5 -4.2). The device is a National Instruments NI myRIO. I have a group of students who are using the hardware in the class while connected to the View client. 35 of the 40 students have no issues connecting to the device. The 5 that have issues are mainly using windows 10 and are using versions 4.0-4.2 of the view client. When connecting the myRIO to the host machine it is recognized in the host's device manager the same way: as "Generic USB-EEM Network Adapter", whether it passes through properly or not. The only difference I could find between hosts where the device passed through properly and it didn't was in the logs.
For a host that failed to pass the device through these two lines are consistently in the logs:

What's interesting is that on the hosts that work it still doesn't actually find the descriptor:

It appears that regardless of whether it passes through or not client is not receiving the device descriptors. What I don't understand is why certain hosts seem to ignore the lack of descriptors and connect anyway and some block the device immediately. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bidiak

Scanner Redirection not working while Cisco Nac agent or cisco anyconnect is running
Hi
We are testing scanner redirection with our end users and found that scanners are not detected while Cisco Nac agent or cisco any connect is running. We performed a test of disabling the service and scanner started to detect, we would like to know if any exclusion needs to be performed in the NAC or the any connect.
Please Advice
VMware View client drive redirection disconnects auntomatically
Hi
We have users using PST and since they are huge we have enabled client drive redirection and map the pst using this option. We found that the client drives are auto-disconnected in certain cases and couldn't find the root cause this issue.
Please Advice
Accessing view via IP
Okay, I have been fighting certs for a day and a half now. I have finally got a local CA cert that works via hostname and FQDN. But we are currently using IP addr to connect. I have tried adding IP Address = x.x.x.x to the SAN of the cert, but it doesn't work.
Is this even possible?

View 6 Upgrade including EUC Access Point
Hello
I have a 2-part question:
Firstly, I detail my current deployment and upgrade plans below, and would be grateful if anyone is willing to sanity-check this approach. We want to know that everything will keep working as we stage the updates and patches.
Secondly, we currently use EUC Access Point 2.0.0.0 Build 2939373. As part of the VIEW upgrade I would like to upgrade the EUC to version 2.5.1, but (a) I don't know how to upgrade/patch an EUC AP, and can't find any documentation explaining how it is done; and (b) I'm not sure whether I need to upgrade the EUC AP at a particular point in time relative to the other upgrades I am carrying out.
Current Deployment
VIEW 6 Standard 6.2.2 Build 3508079
running on
ESXi 6.0.0 Build 3620759 (6.0 Update 2)
running on HP Proliant Gen9 Servers
Our VIEW Desktops are already running View Agents v6.2.3 even though the VIEW Connection Servers are v6.2.2
We do not use Security Servers, Transfer Servers and we do not use VIEW Composer.
We do use Infinio on the ESXi hosts, but the guys at Infinio are encouraging us to patch those hosts anyway, so I'm confident that that is no problem.
Upgrade Plan
(1) Update ESXi Proliant Hosts to 6.0 Patch 4 Build 4600944
We are aware of an issue when Update Manager is used to update Proliant Gen9 hosts, so we will carry out an offline/manual upgrade to Patch 4
(2) Update each VIEW Connection Server to VIEW 6.2.3 (latest build)
(3) Update Access Point to version 2.5.1 [how? and is it correct to do this after everything else?]
thanks
Robert
EUC Access Point - Web Access
With an EUC Access Point, is it possible to turn off Web Access (prevent connections)...
e.g. No service at https://<euc host name>/portal/webclient/index.html#/
...while still permitting connections from clients using standard Horizon View Clients? (Windows, Android etc.)
Or are both eggs in one EUC-basket, so to speak?
View 7 Linked clones deploy error
On a Horizon View 7.0.3 infrastructure when I try to deploy a Linked Clones Pool (win10 or win7) I find allways this problem. "View Composer DiskFault: Disk customization failed due to an internal error".
Some one could help me?
Many thanks.
