View Refresh on logoff not working

$

Hello.

I have VMWare View 5.1.1 build-799444

I've configured automatic refresh after logoff and immediate logoff after disconnect.

But it doesnt work and after few days there is no available desktops to connect, though user fields in desktop list are empty and disconnection\logoff is over if i understood logs right.

It looks like this.
User RETAIL\evgenia.yarkova requested Pool TrainingTest, allocated machine Training-007
The agent running on machine TRAINING-007 has accepted an allocated session for user RETAIL\evgenia.yarkova

User RETAIL\evgenia.yarkova has logged in to a new session on machine TRAINING-007

Later:

User RETAIL\evgenia.yarkova has logged out

User RETAIL\evgenia.yarkova has logged off machine TRAINING-007

The agent running on machine TRAINING-007 has shut down, this machine will be unavailable

Then i expect message like Refreshed VM Training-007

But it never appears.
Any suggestions?

Rights should be OK, it worked before, and i am able to resresh desktops manually.

.V2 to .v5 (VDI View profile migration)

Hello,

Our organization currently has approx 700 VDI desktop running Windows 7 Ent x64 (.v2)

Vmware Horizon view 6.x

We looking to move to Windows 10 ENT LTSB 2015 (.v5)

Vmware Horizon view 7.x

The Horizon VDI view environment is setup as floating desktop. Users dont get the same desktop each time they login, they get different desktop and their profile settings are saved to a shared network path (\\VIEWFILEshare\Persona-profile-share\username.companyname.V2)

We are attempting to migrate VDI persona profile from Windows 7 (.v2) to Windows 10 (.v5).

File structure:

\\VIEWFILEshare\Persona-profile-share\username.companyname.V2

\\VIEWFILEshare\Persona-profile-share\username.companyname.V5

We have used the proper tool to migrate the persona management profile but once user logs in into the new environment (.v5) the user settings are not carried over, screen flickers, etc...

We followed this documentation front to back, left to right, up to down, inside to outside, to no avail.

https://pubs.vmware.com/horizon-62-view/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/view-62-profile-migration.pdf

Opened support case with VMware no luck so far.

Been reading around the web to just rename the user profile from .v2 to .v5 then have the user login to Windows 10 but it does not work in our case. It bricks the Windows 10 Start menu search, and other things don't work.

Have any of you migrated from v2 to v5 ?

Patching hosts in View environment

What is the best way to keep hosts patched in a view environment?

I’m running View 6.2 on hosts at 6.0 U1a.   Looking at the in Product Interoperability Matrix, the max esxi version that supports View 6.2 is esxi 6.2 U2.

Installing all critical patches on the host using update manager will supersede the supported version of esxi, which I obviously can’t do and I’m trying not to have to inspect all patch information to see which build each patch\fix will take esxi to.   There must be an easier way, right?

Any pointers appreciated.

Session Stays in 'Disconnect' State Even though The User Logged Off

I then have to restart the VM so it becomes available again or wait 30 minutes for it to time out, otherwise the user can't connect.

It only happens on our Windows 10 Pool - The Windows 7 Pool Works all OK.

Can I view a VM running on ESXi directly from the Android Horizon Client?

Disclaimer: I'm brand new to VMware and its ecosystem.

I've managed to install an ESXi host (version 6.5.0). I can connect to the host through a browser (both on desktop and in Android) and login to the UI presented there. I've spun up a VM and can confirm that all of that is working.

What I'd like to do is use the Horizon Client on Android to connect to this VM. Currently I'm just entering the IP address of the ESXi host. I've verified that the host is getting a connection from the Android device but I get an error message on Android:

Error: HTTP error 400

Please verify that Connection Server address and network settings are correct and try again.

I've seen this error in both version 3.1.0 and 4.2.1. As I said, I'm brand new to the VMware ecosystem so I imagine I'm massively oversimplifying what must be involved in getting this to work. Would I ever be able to connect with this setup? Do I need to install another VMware product between ESXi and the Horizon Client?

Sound Control in View VM

Anyone have issues with adjusting volume inside the the view desktops?

I can't adjust volume control in windows 7 using the tray icon.  I can run sndvol.exe and use that to do so but the users don't like that answer

Anybody aware of any setting in View that would prevent adjusting volume like this within the vm?

I originally thought it was the security products but even after removing them the issue persists.

Any clues or advice would be appreciated.

View 7 upgrade

We are currently running the following:

vCenter Server 5.5.0, 3142196
ESXi, 5.5.0, 3116895
View 6.1.0 build-2509221
View Composer 6.1.0.2506641

We would like to upgrade to the following:
vCenter Server 6.0.0, 3634793
ESXi, 6.0.0, 3620759
View 7.0.2 build-4356666
View Composer 7.0.2.4350300

What are the upgrade steps we should follow?
In our test environment, we upgraded vCenter and ESXi, to the versions mentioned above, but ran into an issue with recomposing machines with view 6.1. So we upgraded View composer and upgraded the broker and security which seemed to help with the recompose issue. Once we upgraded, we could no longer connect to the VM's (remote display protocol error). We had to upgrade the View agent on the VM's in order to reconnect.

We would like to upgrade our production environment, but obviously we cant upgrade everything in one day. What steps do we need to take to ensure minimal impact on our users and downtime?

Windows 7 Sessions

Hi all

Following situation:

We have 5 VMs and 5 domain users for one pool (automated desktop pool, automatic assignment)

The 5 user are generic ones, so each user in the company can log in with one of those 5 accounts into one of those 5 VMs.

Now, if for example Jon is logged in with User1 and 30 minutes later Peter is also taking User1 to log in, he will take over the session from Jon. I think this is by design from Microsoft in Windows 7. But is there a way to block this? So if User1 is logged in, no other person can log in with User1, until User1 does not have an active (RDP) session?

With RDS I think you can achieve this with the following policy:

Restrict Remote Desktop Services user to a single Remote Desktop Services session but it does not work for "only" Windows 7.

I don't know, maybe there is a way with some Horizon settings / RegKeys?

Thank you for your advice.

Solero

USB Redirect and Chrome OS

WHY? WHY? WHY? Why did VMware decide with the new 4.3 client to disable USB redirection on chromebooks?  I have thousands of chromebooks rendered useless.  A primary use case were my students bringing documents in on their thumb drives and accessing those files in their VDI session.  Now you all of a sudden disable that with no warning or work around? Stupid!

View Persona v6 profiles

This is outlines in the 7.0.3 release notes.

  • After every login, View Persona Management take a long time to replicate the first user persona on a guest operating system that uses the "v6" version of the user profile.

I'm trying to understand what this means. I know Windows 10 Anniversary update is the v6 profile, but what does it mean by first user persona and after "every login".  Does this mean the first time it creates a v6 profile for everyone of my users it will take a long time?

VMWare Horizon Client 4.x.x: Multimonitor problem with VIA chip

We used to use Horizon client 3.5.2, it worked fine. After we updated to Horizon client 4.xx(have tried 4.0.1, 4.1.0, 4.2.0), all these versions have the same issue as follows:

If you try to connect a Horizon server with a computer with Horizon 4.x on, which has dual monitors and using VIA chip, after you used any of applications from the server, the connection window will become black, you can still move it, but you can see nothing on it.

However it works fine with single Monitor. Also tried with Computer with Intel chip on, there is no such Problems.

Don't know if this is a bug or an known issue, but we are looking for a solution for it. It will be very appreciated, if someone here can give some advices.

Linked-Clone Pool Recompose Problem

VMware View 7.0.1, UEM 9.0, and App Volumes 2.11

I have several linked - cloned pools that I have created.  There isn't an issue with creating the pools, but I have an issue with recomposing them.  Customization times out and I get an error that the machines can't join the domain.  The account that is used to connect to the domain is okay.  I have the box checked to allow reuse of pre-existing computer accounts, I'm pointing to the new snapshot, and I don't know what else might make a difference.

I would appreciate any help.

Chrome and Horizon Persona Management

Anyone running Chrome in Horizon (version 7) with persistent google profile (using persona management)?

It requires a Google Chrome ADM, which was fine, all that worked out ok.  First day it was fine, too, albeit slow.  Since then, however, every time someone logs in, the desktop reboots without warning.  I'm having a hard time pausing the reboot so I can get in to see logs.  I've scoured the internet, too, for similar problems and nothing.

Any wisdom someone can shed would be wholeheartedly welcome. For reference, there's pretty much nothing else on the desktop, Chrome is our primary tool.  Windows 10 LTSB, (pre-anniversary)

thanks,

Horizon Client - Not responding When Start desktop

We have problems using the horizon Client

Run Horizon Client -> Connect to Server -> Login -> Select Virtual Desktop

Horizon Client becomes Not Responding, and virtual machine connection fails.

If it fails, taskmgr does not terminate VMware related processes,

I tried to connect again after the forced termination of all of them.

I found an application hang in the Windows Event Viewer.

I am using symantec endpoint protection (SEP) as a media control solution.

I think SEP is in conflict with the USB daemon.

I have tried this until now.

1. Remove USB function when installing horizon client.

There was no connection issue.

2. Install again with usb function

There was an issue with the connection.

I need advice.

Win 10 Linked Clones slow login

Anyone else experiencing this? The login time is about 45-60 seconds each time. Also i can't seem to remove the built in apps like xbox and stuff. I ran the PS scripts and it removed them from the master image but when it composes and user logs in, they are right back on there. Even tried with GPO settings.

Anyone have a good starting point?

Thanks!

View Administrator Console Extremely Slow

$

We have an on premises deployment of VMware Horizon 7.0.2 and I am finding that the administrator console is slow to the point of it almost not being use-able. I did some research and found that this may be related to the Java Heap Size on the Connection Server. Initially, we hadn't provisioned a lot of physical memory for the connection server. The intention was always to expand later but I have read the the Java Heap Size is directly related to the physical memory on the server. I have since upgraded the RAM on that server to the recommended 10GBs but the view admin console still seems extremely slow. I was hoping to check the java heap size on the connection server but I can't get access to the logs. It says access denied. Is this because I need to use the designated View service user to check the logs? Does it sound like my problem is the java heap size? Or is there possibly something else going on here? Other than this, the deployment is proceeding quite smoothly.

Essentials vCenter limitations?

I have 6 ESX servers and two Essentials kits

I would like to have a single web-based management pane that includes all 6 servers, using the two VCSA instances as replicas of each other.

The first VCSA and ESX servers are working correctly, but the second one won't use AD accounts for SSO, just the local admin account.

Possible?  Not possible?

Composer issues after Upgrade

Having an issue accepting the certificate for the Composer in the View admin web console.

The current status says untrusted, when i go to verify and accept the thumbprint i am getting the error "There was an error identifying the validity of the server"

First our setup

1 vcentre build 6.0.0, 277651 co-installed composer 7.0.3.4698622 (Server 2012R2)

10 hosts, 9 ESXi 6.0.0, 3247720 / 1 ESXi 5.5.0, 3248547

4 Connection servers 7.0.3, 4709455 (Server 2008 R2)

4 Security Gateways 7.0.3, 4709455 (Server 2012 R2)

1 SQL Server 2008R2 SP3 (Server 2012 R2)

I have followed the documentation on upgrading from View 6.2 to Horizon 7.0.3, because we have an older version of the vCenter i have followed the notes on enabling TLSv1.0 on the connection server and the Composer server.

I have confirmed i can telnet from the connection server to the composer on port 18443, if i try to navigate to https://[ComposerFQDN]:18443 in a web browser i get a certificate waning page and if i continue i get a HTTP404 error.

I have uninstalled the Composer and reinstalled it, the composer service is running as a local system account but have tried it as domain administrator but no difference.

One thing i have noticed is the CN for the certificate on the composer only has the netbios name but the dashboard and the settings under Servers -> vCenter Servers both show the FQDN, as this is a self signed certificate and we are just accepting the thumprint i assume this is not the issue as it was like this in 6.2 before the upgrade.

Any tips on getting it to accept the composer certificate or where to start looking for clues would be greatly appreciated.

Managing disk space Windows 7

$

We have had this issue for a while and its never really been solved effectively. Environment is View 5.3 with Windows 7 32 bit hosts running as linked clones. We are not maintaining any users profiles, just blow the classrooms away. We try to start out with 24 gigs on each disk which allows us to install everything they need, but over time with the updates, the disk keeps growing and the person I did have managing this wouls just add disk space instead of fixing the problem. Everything works great until they hit about 40 gigs, then we start having provisioning issues. Not sure why this is, but it's likely related to storage. Its gotten better since we moved to Netapp from HP EVA. If anyone knows the magic number, then I would be interested since its came back to bite me multiple times

Anyway, back the point. The guys who used to work here would just let them grow. He left and I'm now looking back closely at the environment where is has let some of them get to 46 gigs. Looking around I see the c:\windows\Installer is taking up a lot of space. 10 gigs on some master images. I've deleted these files before without a lot of issues, but Microsoft says you should not just delete them, can't uninstall updates etc, blah, blah blah.

I was just wondering how other was handling this issue and if you had any better recommendations for managing this long term and keeping the disk size down.

Thanks Bruce

UEM intermittently fails...

Hi everyone.

We are implementing a new VDI environment, it is XenDesktop 7.11 hosted on VMware vSphere 6.0. We are using VMware UEM 9.1 as our workspace management tool. We currently have an issue whereby intermittently UEM doesn't properly create the user environment. The user is still logged in but they don't get any of their Persona built. No shortcuts, printers or profile etc.

I have followed the implementation guide closely and confirmed the user has permissions to the profile, archives and UEM General folders. Users also have access to the registry, and we are not blocking Regedit in group policy. Group policy is running and the UEM Policy is applying (as verified by GPRESULT). Also the log UEM log files do not contain any errors. It is rather puzzling! Any assistance greatly appreciated.
