VMWare View issues

In our medical clinics we use VMware View to connect to our EMR.  Some users can connect fine, others cannot.  Those who cannot receive an error message:

"The display protocol for this desktop is currently not available.  Please contact your system administrator."

For two days, some users have been receiving this message.  Initially when logging in, the user seems to authenticate properly and gets a number of "desktop" choices.  Upon choosing a desktop and clicking connect, a black screen appears.  This is just before the remote desktop should appear and begin loading.  Then a time out message appears.  Upon re-trying the connection we get the display protocol error.

I remoted into a workstation tonight at 11 PM, and everything works as expected right now.  On Monday, I worry that these issues will arise again, thinking that we have a resource issue of some sort, or a network connection issue.  So far our IT department has been pretty unresponsive.  So, I'm trying to find some answers.  We are using a mix of client versions, on up through Horizon 5.4.1.

Here are some questions, in random order:

1.  Could this be due to a "busy network" during the daytime?  Maybe there is a slow Internet connection cause a time out?

2.  Is this most likely a problem on the server side?  I'm trying to rule out any problems on the client side.

3.  All are Windows 7 Pro client machines, where VMware View worked earlier in the week.  I suspect IT made some un-announced changes on the server side.  What questions should I ask them?

Thank you,

4-5 seconds delay starting published applications with RDSH

$

I'm troubleshooting an issue where starting an application from a RDSH server with Horizon View is taking 12 seconds. No UEM or profile management is being used, just plain local profiles. I've captured some data with xperf and I can see a 4 to 5 seconds delay between the session create and the actual user logon. The only 2 processes started during that delay are pcoip_server_win32.exe and VMwareView-Rdeserver.exe. When I look at the VMware View debug log, I can see the following error during the delay:

2015-05-12T11:13:14.963+02:00 DEBUG (0190-0B20) <MessageChannel ReceiveThread> [MessageFrameWork] Unable to locate queue PCoIPVChan-SVR(2) with hint MESSAGE_IPC.

2015-05-12T11:13:14.963+02:00 DEBUG (0190-0D50) <MessageChannel ReceiveThread> [MessageFrameWork] Unable to locate queue PCoIPVChan-SVR(0) with hint MESSAGE_IPC.

2015-05-12T11:13:15.182+02:00 DEBUG (0190-0B20) <MessageChannel ReceiveThread> [MessageFrameWork] Unable to locate queue PCoIPVChan-SVR(2) with hint MESSAGE_IPC.

2015-05-12T11:13:15.182+02:00 DEBUG (0190-0D50) <MessageChannel ReceiveThread> [MessageFrameWork] Unable to locate queue PCoIPVChan-SVR(0) with hint MESSAGE_IPC.

This error is logged multiple times during the delay. What can cause this error and is probably the cause of the delay?

Server is: Windows 2008R2

VMware Horizon 6.1 and Microsoft One drive for Business Sync

$

One of my clients requires to have Onedrive for Business in a View environment with linked clones. I read about the Onedrive for Business sync client and apparently you can not specify/change the location of the download location.

The customer demands that the Onedrive for Business client is installed and will sync/download the content from Onedrive, but in a linked clone environment this might mean that the sync client will download all content of Onedrive each time a user logs on to a dekstop, which we obviously do not want.

I told the customer that he potentially will have to store 1 TB of data per user in his datacenter, meaning he will need a lot of SAN space, but the customer does not care about this.

Does anybody have any experience with the Onedrive for business sync client in a Linked clone View environment and how to best set this up?

Reuse Previously Provisiond View System as a pool template

$

I'd like to know if anyone has done a write-up on creating a pool template that is based a a clone of a previously provisioned VDI system?

View 5.3.3

FYI I've done this one before and got it to work but either I missed something in my documentation that I'm now unable to remember or something else has changed.

We are an Engineering company that uses specialized software supported by a group of Power Users in our engineering department. I have a test Pool specifically for them to use when working on new software deployments or upgrades. Often they will come to me and request a new pool based on their test system (instead of having them RDP into a template, join it back to the domain, re-work the whole install/upgrade, pass it back to me to clean up and create a new pool).

In my testing, I complete the following:

1. uninstall all VMware View agents and VMware Tools

2. Clean Temp directories and all VMware folders

    c:\programdata\vmware

    c:\program files\common files\vmware

    c:\program files (x86)\common files\vmware

    c:\program files\vmware

    c:\program files (x86)\vmware

    c:\windows\syswow64\config\systemprofile\appdata\roaming

    c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\appdata\roaming

    c:\users\administrator\appdata\local\vmware\

    c:\windows\temp

3. Remove other Reg keys that relate to VMware

    HKLM\Software\Policies\VMware

    HKLM\Software\Policies\Teradici

    HKLM\Software\Policies\VMware, Inc.

    HKLM\Software\VMware, Inc.

    HKLM\Software\ThinPrint

4. Via Reg, reset default user profile path back to %SystemDrive%\Users

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\ProfilesDirectory = %SystemDrive%\Users

5. Change Temp and Tmp Environment variables back to C:\Windows\Temp

6. Reset Changes to the Page File by resetting the following Key with an export of a known good template system

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

After all of this I receive one of the following errors when trying to provision my systems:

If the disposable disk in mounted on a different drive letter than expected I get this:

View Composer agent initialization state error (21): Failed to mount system disposable disk. Please check the parent VM if an existing disk is using the same drive letter. (waited 0 seconds)

If the disposable disk is mounted on the correct drive letter I get this...

View Composer agent initialization state error (9): Failed to relocate disposable (waited 0 seconds)

Any ideas??

Thanks,

Persona initial user login doesn't always synchronize correctly

$

When logging in for the first time to a Persona Managed Windows 7 VM, it doesn't synchronize correctly if logged on for less than the 15 minute profile upload interval. When the initial login is less than 15 minutes, not all folders are synchronized and the items pinned to the taskbar show up as a white 'paper' that when clicked on returns the error "Can't open this item  It might have been moved, renamed, or deleted. Do you want to remove this item?"

Is there a way to get Persona Management to synchronize profiles immediately upon first login to the domain?

We currently have only this one floating pool that is going to be using Persona as we are still testing.

Multiple View sessions, same PC?

View 6.0.1, Client 3.3.0

Can I have multiple View sessions from the same PC? In other words

  • Launch the Horizon View client, login, and access a desktop
  • Launch the Horizon View client again, login as a different user, and access a different desktop
  • Repeat until I have many session open at once

The reason I ask is we are migrating from Exchange to Gmail. Google provides a utility called GAMME that in a larger environment can be run from multiple machines with each machine migrating one portion of the alphabet. Rather than using 10 physical machines I would rather use 10 View desktops. This will work slick if from my real PC I can access all 10 view desktops. I will be using a different login account to access each desktop.

Horizon PowerCLI using with VSAN

$

Dears,

recently I met a strange problem when using Horizon PowerCLI with VSAN environment.

I created a automatic linked clone pool with VSAN environment and required a daily scheduled task to disable/enable this pool.

The solution I found is via Horizon PowerCLI - update-automaticlinkedclonepool.

Although I tried the PowerCLI quite fine in my lab, I had no luck when deploying the script to the production.

The scripts (or the command) are almost the same between lab and production, just like following:

     Update-AutomaticLinkedCLonePool -Pool_id {POOL_ID} -disabled $true

And the error messages:

Update-AutomaticLinkedClonePool : PowershellService::UpdateAutomaticLinkedClonePool FAILED, error=Virtual SAN functionality is not supported:Virtual SAN is not available because no Virtual SAN datastores are configured.
位於 行:1 字元:32
+ Update-AutomaticLinkedClonePool <<<< -Pool_id {POOL_ID} -disabled $true
  + CategoryInfo : InvalidResult: (vmware.view.pow...LinkedClonePoo
  l:UpdateAutomaticLinkedClonePool) [Update-AutomaticLinkedClonePool], Excep
  tion
  + FullyQualifiedErrorId : PowershellService::UpdateAutomaticLinkedClonePoo
  l FAILED,vmware.view.powershell.cmdlets.UpdateAutomaticLinkedClonePool

If I changed the pool setting with using not VSAN and the desktops still stayed in VSAN, the script ran normally as expected.

Once the setting change back to use VSAN, it failed again with the same error messages.

There is no such issue in my lab (the same horizon version 6.0.2 / ESXi 5.5 update 2).

Desktop pools in VSAN are still workable with the enable/disable script.

Could anyone give me some hints to do with this issue?

I would appreciate a lot!

Joe

a VM machine got stuck

Hi,

In a linked clone pool a maching is stuck. I cannot refresh or delete the machine from the View Console. I cannot even power off the machine in Vsphere. The Power off error is "Another task is already in progress"

I guess View tries to remedy the VM too. How can I stop the View task for this machine or pool so that I can power off the VM in Vsphere and delete it from disk. I guess after I have deleted the VM, View Composer will auto create it again.

Thanks,

Edy

Hey Everyone,

Troubleshooting performance and need some suggestions and clarifications.

What can we do to speed up the performance, really slow?  It doesn't look like it is IOPS, we put some on flash drives and no difference.  If we put 1 video card in each ESXi host will it make a difference?

Environment:

3 HP Servers, Proliant g3's - ESXi hosts running servers and view environment.

2 sockets - 8 cores - 32 logical, 196 gigs of memory each

CPU on hosts averages 15%

Memory on hosts averages 70%

View version 5.1.0 build 2323236

Storage is HP servers 9 TB's 50% utilization.

Hey guys,

hoping somebody can shed some light on an issue our users are experiencing.. we have users on view 6.1 3vCpu, 16GB Ram and 15k Sas San backend.. the issues our users are seeing only pertain to running visual studio.. compile time is fine.. but moving around, typing, scrolling is running very slow.. usable but not a great experience. these issues do not affect other applications.. just VS2010.

has anyone seen this before and found a way to make the functionality better?

we running pretty high end hosts + apex 2800 offload cards.. 10GB network etc.. so i doubt it's a hardware issue..

if anyone could shed some light it would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

issue connecting via Blast when not using Blast Secure Gateway

$

We have a new View 6.1 environment up and everything works perfectly except when conecting via Blast.  On our internal Connection Servers the only way that I can successfully connect via Blast through a HTML 5 browser is by having the "Use Secure Tunnel connection to machine" and "Use Blast Secure Gateway for HTML access to machine" checkboxes checked.  When I uncheck them I receive the following error when attempting to connect to a pool:

Your desktop has been disconnected.

Attempting to reconnect to desktop...

Your desktop may have an untrusted security certificate. Click here to accept the security certificate, then try connecting to your desktop again.

Looking at the Connection Server debug log I see the following errors:

startSession failed, protocol error PROTOCOL_ERR_FAILURE

Error_Event:[BROKER_POOL_PROTOCOL_UNAVAILABLE] "Unable to launch from Pool ****** for user ******:  There were no machines available that reported protocol [BLAST] as ready": ProtocolId=[BLAST], SessionType=DESKTOP, Module=Broker, UserDisplayName=*******

User ****** could not be connected to existing session for launch item ******* does not support protocols [BLAST]: The requested protocol is unavailable at this time

Application launch failed, exception was: The display protocol for this desktop is currently not available. [NAME=BLAST, ERROR-CODE=PROTOCOL_ERR_FAILURE]

The "VMware Blast" service is running within the VM's in the pool and when I check those two boxes within the Connection Server configuration I'm able to successfully connect via the Blast protocol.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Urgent Help!!! one of my client meets - "the view agent reports that this desktop source is unable to accept connections"

Dear all,

one of my staff said she could not connect her desktop vm22 and the view client said "the view agent reports that this desktop source is unable to accept connections". my view administrator displays that “the pending session on machine xx for user xxx has been expired” . but i then assigned another user to the same desktop, everything looks fine.

background:

1. I am using view 6.0.

2. This user used to assigned another desktop vm06. it took a long long time (more than 30 minutes) to login (agent set not delete local persona) , This Morning when she tried to connect(already logged in before, here just reconnect),  she got "there is no available gateway for this display protocol". So i assigned her to another desktop vm22

Is there something wrong with this user account or something else. Need your help!!! Thanks in advance!

Horizon 6.1 and OS X Yosemite?

$

Hey everyone, I installed the latest view client for OS X onto two different apple computers, both running 10.10.3 OSX and our back end is Horizon 6.1

Everything works great from a PC or thin client but I can't get either mac to connect to my environment. One of the mac's says  "The display protocol for this desktop is currently not available". The other mac just spits out a generic type message of not being able to connect.

Are my mac's and horizon compatible? I've tried changing the resolution, tried different versions of the horizon client, but nothing seems to work. Thanks all
