window resizing

$

We have an issue reported by some of our users of their windows resizing when switching zero clients. They could be at a zero client and have Program A maximized and if they are to switch to another zero client, Program A is now resized to a window mode. Both monitors are the same size. This also happens if the user is to secure their workstation on one zero client and log right back into the same zero client.

I know this isn't a big problem but to our users it just becomes extra clicks to have their windows back to how they had it. Have others seen this and if so any ideas on how to resolve it or is it something you guys have just dealt with?

Print Jobs Shifting Characters (ThinPrint - Redirected Printer)

$

We ran into this issue last year where some print jobs when printed would shift all characters one position forward like a Caesar Cipher. For instance A's would become B's, 1's would become 2's, G's would become H's etc. The fix for this was posted in KB2099984 where it instructed to set the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ThinPrint\TPView\EnableLegacyFonts DWORD to 1. We have had that in place for quite some time with no issues, however just recently it has started to happen again, even with the regkey still implemented on the host machine.

This appears to happen inside of IE when printing the PDF, and when opening directly with Reader/Acrobat. I opened the PDF in Chrome and it printed the characters properly. This also only appears to be certain PDF's, the one I am troubleshooting is a PDF form that is being exported out of a web application. The workaround I have right now is to print the PDF as an image since that bypasses any font dependencies or conversions or open the PDF in Chrome and print that way.

Horizon Client 4.7.0

AppVol 2.13.3.12

UEM 9.3.0.804

VMware Tools 10.1.10.6082533

Horizon Agent 7.3.2

Is anyone else seeing this issue show up again? I am not seeing anything in the thinprint.log indicating any issue as the print job is technically successful, just characters are skewed.

VMWare Horizon View Install - No reboot - MDT

Hi All,

We currently use VMware Horizon View Client on all our laptops to allow users to connect to our VDI environment. Our laptops are running Windows 10.

As part of our Image deployment using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit Horizon Client is installed.

During the Horizon Client install Horizon client forces the machine to reboot causing a dirty deployment message once the machine has started back up again.

I have seen several different topics on this subject but none of the solutions we have tried work. Here is what i have tried;

1. Installing Horizon View Client with the /norestart switch.

2. Creating a script to install all the dependencies ( Visual C++) before Horizon client, also with the /norestart switch.

3. Add all the dependencies into MDT as applications and list them under Horizon Client as required. All still have the /norestart switch.

If I run any scripts manually the machine does not reboot but for some reason it still reboots when the script is ran via MDT. None of the applications in MDT have the (restart required) ticked.

I also kept refreshing the Programs and Features during installation. All of the Visual C++ install fine, Horizon View client also shows up in the programs list but the machine is then force rebooted. After restarting Horizon View is no longer in the programs list and only re-appears after MDT resumes the install.

I'm at a total loss as to why it keeps doing this when all applications and dependencies have the norestart switch.

Would really appreciate any help on the issue and if anybody has managed to deploy via MDT.

Thanks

Zero Client for Blast Extreme and Nvidia vGPU

We currently have HP T310 PCOIP clients and need some more.

We are not too happy with how PCOIP works with AutoCAD so are looking at moving over to Blast Extreme as it seems to be better and as VMware are phasing support for PCOIP out, i guess its a move in the right direction.

Can anyone recommend some good Zero Clients for Blast Extreme that work well with Nvidia cards (M60) for AutoCAD/Revit use?

VDI and network printers (shared from print server) for remote office

Where is the best place to have print server for VDI users in remote office ?

a) At the HQ DC where the VDIs are running

b) At the branch office where are located printers

We try to minimise BW consumption and even more important that printing is responsive.

Latency between remote office and HQ is around 100ms and BW is 10/10 mbps.

Error 404 while attempting SAML authentication to Horizon View environment!

I've setup a Proof of Concept environment for Horizon 7.  I've got a test user successfully logging in and getting a desktop from either instant clone or linked clone pools.

I'm now trying to authenticate users using a 3rd Party SAML authenticator.  I've followed the scant documentation provided at Using SAML Authentication to setup a Static authenticator.  I've copied the metadata from hzn7-cs1.domain.com/SAML/metadata/sp.xml and sent it over to the IDP.  In Horizon View Administrator, the dashboard shows all services are in the green - including SAML.

In the metadata, I see the Assertion Consumer Service (ACS) URL:

<md:AssertionConsumerServiceBinding="urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:2.0:bindings:HTTP-POST"Location="https://hzn7-cs1.cipherize.com/broker/xml"index="0"isDefault="true"/>

When I perform an IDP initiated login, I'm greeted by a 404 error when the IDP sends a POST to the specified Assertion Consumer Service (ACS) URL:

https://hzn7-cs1.cipherize.com/broker.xlm

Directly navigating to this ACS URL also returns a 404 - is this really the correct ACS URL?

What could be the issue?  Has anyone been able to get this working?

Thanks muchly,

AK.

update: wanted to see if anyone has already looked in to ignoring this new view api property, and the ramifications, before I start going down the rabbit hole. also, is there a reference anywhere for view 7.4 api? The latest I was able to find was 7.1

Unable to reconnect to VM after disconnect

Need your expertise opinions..

Windows 10 with 1709 gold image

Horizon Agent 7.3.1

Horizon Client 4.6.1 and 4.7

Has anyone in VDI land running into this issue.  If so, what did you do fix it?

ISSUE:  It doesn't matter if the user just leaves them on and they time out or if they disconnect and log off. When trying to log back in they just get a black screen or an error message saying to contact the system administrator.

I have go into View Admin and either reset and remove the VM in order for user to get a new VM instead of re-connect back to same VM.

Thanks in advance..

Auto Assigned Desktop Info Stored where?

When a user is auto assigned to a desktop, where is that user/desktop information stored? In the ADAM DB? Where?

We are having an issue where a user was auto assigned desktop A (full clone) but then was having reconnect issues/errors so we assigned her desktop B.

Desktop B was working without the reconnect issues UNTIL we removed her entitlement from Desktop A. Then the issue started again. We currently have Desktop A in maintenance mode but I'm assuming there is some sort of residual information left behind either on her laptop or in the ADAM db.

Horizon Web Access (Blast) not loading in some browsers

Hello there!

We've got an issue with the horizon web access on version 7.4 (client version 4.6). The web page has a valid https certificate assigned to it.

As I try to log in with firefox, everything works just fine and I can log onto my VDI desktop as I would expect it to.

But safari, chrome, opera and internet explorer are not working with this behaviour:

  • Safari & internet explorer:
I can log in there, but as I click on my desktop, the browser redirects me to the home page and I have to log in again.
  • Chrome & opera:
In chrome, I can enter my username and my password but then, it just stucks with a loading icon.

I tried to find something in the knowledgebase but I didn't find anything useful or anything that worked for us.

Do you have any idea what could cause this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Greetings,

Sandro

Windows 10 USB Redirection Fails to work on login

$

We have Windows 10 and Windows 7 Desktops all running Horizon View Agent 7.4.0.  These are all instant clone desktops.  On first login the Windows 10 desktops usb redirection fails with the error USB redirection is not available for this desktop

If you then disconnect and reconnect after like 30 seconds of USB initializing (which is a long time compared to Windows 7) the USB devices will show up properly.

On  our Windows 7 desktops the USB redirection works properly every time and is much faster to initialize.

Windows 10 Thin Print Printers "Stacked" on Same Printer In Devices and Printers

$

On Windows 10 Desktops our Thin Print printers are all "stacked".  For example if I have multiple printers attached I'll only see on via devices and printers, but if I then right click the printer all of the menu items have an arrow next to them and I can then choose the sub printers from that.  If I do this in Printers & Scanners I can click the print queue and choose manage where it then says

"This device has a few different functions.  Pick on to manage settings for that function."

The other "functions" are in fact the other printers.  While this works this isn't at all intuitive for the users.  Is there a way to get these printers separated out into their individual printers?

Horizon and NAT

Hi,

Trying to understand what mix of VMware technology I need to use to allow lab users to access their environments with Horizon View.  Within our lab, we have 6 different groups of RHEL 7 VMs that must replicate a real world environment as closely as possible.  Therefore each "group" of VMs is contained in its own Port Group and the port group does not have accessibility to any other networks... essentially the VMs are isolated and each port group uses the same range of RFC 1918 addresses (this is required.)  To gain access to the VMs via SSH, each port group has a dedicated NAT device with two NICs, one on the internal range and one on the external side.  We use 1:1 NAT mappings for each VM in the Port Group.

SSH and other communication works fine in this scenario.  However, the task I have is to provide Horizon View access to the RHEL VM's in each "group."  The catch is that I need a single point of access, so a single Horizon Connection server for all groups of VMs... not 1 connection server for each group of VMs.  So essentiall I have NAT between the Connection server and the RHEL Agent.  The agent checks-in and communicates with the Connection server fine.

The problem is when we launch a desktop pool.  the connection fails because the Agent is asking the client to use the RFC 1918 address instead of the external address (or at least, the FQDN of the VM.)  I know in older Citrix days, there were settings to allow for "AltAddr" where the agents is instructed to send the client a different IP than its actual IP.  I also see this is possible with VMware Horizon Direct-Connection Plugin, where an alternate IP can be specified, however Direct-Connection plugin does not support Linux.

Aside from creating 6 different Connection servers and asking my users to rely on 6 different URLs for each "group", any options to keep a single Connection server (or UAG for that matter.)

Thanks!

Horizon 7.4 with vCenter/vSphere 6.7

The release notes, KB and interoperability matrix for vCenter/vSphere 6.7 around Horizon 7.4 compatibility are confusing.

The blog article states:

At vSphere 6.7 general availability, compatible versions of VMware NSX, VMware Integrated OpenStack and VMware vSphere Integrated Containers will not be available. Moreover, VMware Horizon 7.4 is not compatible with the Instant Clone API used in vSphere 6.7.  Instant Clone support for vSphere 6.7 will be available in an upcoming Horizon release.

This sounds like it is compatible, as long as you are not using instant clones.

The interoperability matrix shows vSphere (esxi) 6.7 as compatible with Horizon 7.4, with the note that instant clones are not yet supported.

However, the interoperability matrix only lists 6.5u1 as the latest vCenter compatible with Horizon 7.4.

Considering that your vSphere version has to match or be lower than your vCenter version. I'm confused.  Is the info in the interoperability matrix wrong, does Horizon 7.4 support vCenter 6.7?
