Brother label printer and view desktop - virtual printer port for USB

$

Wondering if anyone can help, we are looking to introduce Brother PT-700 label printers into our environment, we currently use HP T310 Zero Clients and Windows 7 x64 desktops, we want to connect the printers locally via USB. I can install the printer onto my own VDI desktop using the drivers provided by Brother and I can print fine. The issue we have is, we run a linked clone environment where the VDI desktops refresh every 7 days and the users do not have administrator permissions to install any drivers/software themselves plus we would prefere to do it ourselves. I planned to install the printer and driver onto the main golden image so all the users have to do is connect it up, the printer/drivers will already be installed plus the virtual printer port for USB will have already been created. The issue we have is that it's not working, users can connect the printer, it recognises the printer because it also maps a drive containing Brother Ptouch software but the printer remains offline, we can re-create the printer locally using the virtual printer port and still it remains offline. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, the only thing I can thing of is that when the virtual printer port is created on the golden image it's mapped to that specific instance (if that makes sense?) of the printer? That port does not even list as available ports until I actually install the printer drivers onto the golden image or my test VDI desktop. I don't think this is an issue with the zero client or USB mapping etc due to the fact I can install and use the printer with no problems on my own VDI desktop.

I've got a feeling this will only work if the users themselves install the printer/drivers and connect it up during the installation process (midway through installation of the printer/drivers it asks for the printer to be connected via USB before proceeding, on the golden image install I do that myself), at which point it will create the virtual printer port for USB. Issue with that is, they would need permissions to do that and every 7 days that would need to re-install it.

Any help appreciated.

Issues with viewdbchk

I am experiencing issues running the viewdbchk command. When connecting to the composer server, I receive the following error...

Checking connectivity...

Connecting to View Composer "https://composer1:18443". This may take some time...

** ERROR: EXCEPTION: Unable to establish a connection with View Composer: "https://composer1:18443". ; nested exception is:

Is there a way to bypass the certificate check?

Network Isolated Dev VDI

So I have two domains.  A production domain and a network isolated test/dev domain with VLAN isolation.  I want people on their production workstations, which they are logged into with their production domain creds, to launch a view client and authenticate with a VDI desktop on the test/dev domain.   I was thinking I could accomplish this by making the View Connection server have a virtual NIC on production and on test/dev.  Users could hit it from prod through the prod nic, and it could broker the connection to the desktops within the dev domain.  There are no trusts between these domains, but there shouldn't have to be since the connection server is joined to dev and creating desktops in dev.

The vCenter would be in production.  I would just set up the vCenter connection on the view connection server with the production DNS address of vCenter and a service account on the prod domain.  While the connection server is not on that prod domain, the prod domain is network accessible so it should be able to authenticate with vCenter.

Does this sound like it would work?  The entire point is for as little connection between prod and dev as possible.  Only the view connection server would have a connection to both in order to present a dev desktop to a prod workstation.

RemoteMKS connection failed with error 'The connection to the remote computer ended.',is not prelaunch mode

I have a 7.2 Horizon environment. Every now and then, using the Horizon client, I cannot launch any VM pools. They work fine using browser base on the same machine. The VDM logs shows "RemoteMKS connection failed with error 'The connection to the remote computer ended.',is not prelaunch mode". I'm using VMware BLAST. However, on the exact same machine, if I login with a different AD account, I can launch the VM pool. Also, I've deleted my local profile from the machine I'm trying to launch pools from. When I log back in, the AD account is created new and then it works which leads me to believe, somewhere in the profile, there is corruption on the Horizon client. I have published apps and they all launch, just not the VM pools.

Has anyone else seen this issue? It's not expedient to blow out the profile every time this happens as profile contain many user settings that are a pain to back up and restore. Currently am experiencing this on my main VM I use to manage the VDI environment. If anyone has info on how to resolve, that would be fantastic!

Thanks.

unassign users after x amount of days

Hello

I am trying to find out if we can unassign users after a certain number of days of inactivity/non usage?  We have 2 groups of users, one group who will use their VM's daily. and one group who will only user there desktop 1 day out of the week or month, so we have a large number of VM's that are not being utilized. Using a floating pool is out of the question due to the weird nature of our employees and turn over.

we are using Vmware Horzon view 7.1

Cheers

HTML5 Multimedia Redirection feature doesn't work when Chrome is installed on App Volumes writable volume

Hello,

Not sure if this would be the right place to ask, but I am currently running Horizon 7.3.2 environment with Windows 10 LTSB 2016 (Build 1607) instant clone desktops. The desktop image has UEM 9.2.1 and App Volumes 2.13.1 installed, and we utilize both appstacks and writable volumes to support our user's use case.

I was trying out the HTML5 redirection feature (new to 7.3.1) using Windows Horizon client 4.6.1, ensuring that the HTML5 feature is enabled on vdm_agent policies, URL configured, and Google Chrome extension for HTML5 MMR installed. When I use the published app for Chrome (installed directly on RDS server), the HTML5 MMR feature works fine. When I tried it on the desktop where Chrome is installed on the writable volume, however, the extension doesn't seems to work. The extension icon will "color" up for a moment when Chrome is launched, but will soon turn into grey. Consequently, the redirection doesn't work and will play the video on the virtual desktop itself. Not sure if anyone else notice this?

I haven't tried this with Chrome installed directly on the image, but I assume it won't work either since extension files are installed inside the user's Chrome profile directory, within the Local AppData folder in the user profile.

The App Volumes agent is configured with the necessary registry item to allow Google Chrome extensions to function (i.e. assigning a drive letter to writable volume)

Automated Desktop Pool - Full VMs - Name not Changing

Hello all,

I am trying to create an automated pool of Full VMs for use for some users.  I am able to successfully create the pool, but the machines aren't changing names to the specified VM name upon creation and are keeping the name from the template.  They also do not join the domain automatically.  From what research I have done I believe this is supposed to occur automatically.  What am I doing wrong?

I am running View and Composer 7.1 on vSphere 6.0.0

Thanks for any help,

Franklin

Horizon Cloud with Host infrastructure connecting to On-Premise Cloud Pod environment

$

Hello,

Looking for some guidance on if it is possible to connect a Horizon Cloud tenant with Host infrastructure to an on-premise cloud pod environment. We are currently looking at how to expand our VDI Infrastructure next year. We are looking at expanding our two current pods, building a third pod or looking at going to the cloud. If we would go to the cloud we would still like to take advantage of cloud pod architecture, but I'm not sure that is possible.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jeff

The Desktop is Not Currently Available

We see this error rather intermittently in our environment. I wouldn't even say we see it often. When it happens, as far as we know, there are no environmental issues going on. Typically we'll see the user having the issue is actually already on a session, listed as connected in the View Admin console. What we'll then do is reset that VM, then have them authenticate again, and it seems to work. But it's kind of annoying for the user to open a ticket for such an issue. Is it something perhaps to do with the end user's connection (weak wireless signal maybe wherever they are)? Or is it something perhaps with our Horizon config we should check for. Would love to know what the root cause is that gets them to that state.

We are using today Horizon 6.2.0. Our Windows users are instructed to get whatever the latest version of the client is available.

Thanks.

I am trying to get the inventory path of a replica for a linked clone in order that I can unprotect it and move it to a new host.  All documents I find can see you can do this via the advanced search option but when I go to it the option is greyed out as the attached screenshot shows.

Any ideas?

Win10 Disaster with Horizon 7.0.2

Sorry for teh crappy title but that's how it's been.  I am tryin got pt together a Win 190 desktop pool to test Horizzon 7, UEM 9.1 and Appvol 12.3.  So far I am not having a good time of it.

Started out with a normal Win10 desktop and image that was Optimized and pushed out as an Instant Clone pool.  I could never get the login time below 30 seconds without UEM involved adn with UEM involved it was more like 75 seconds.  So what i decided to do is Create a new VM from a new ISO (1607 version) and strip all the unnecessary apps from it hoping that would help my case.  It did to some extent.  Now the issue i have is that now when i create the Pool (doing the same things i've always done when creating a pool) i have to go thru the initial desktop setup (Hi, Welcome.....This might take a few minutes message) and all that does is add more time.  iv'e redone the desktop logged in as i normally do, checked all the apps then created my snapshot and still i get that same message with every user every time.  Since they are instant clones it happens every time.  What the heck did i do wrong and more importantly how the heck do i fix it?  Any help is appreciated.  thanks

Hi all, we have a Horizon 7.1 environment consisting of the following:

4 x Unified Access Gateways

6 x Connection Servers

1 x Composer Server

1 x MS SQL Server

We are looking at enabling the Horizon Pod feature as part of a possible expansion. Our question is, can multiple Pods all use the same vCenter?

Thanks in advance

black screen and snapshot problem

hi,I have some problems concerning the end-user's desk for example I can not find the same icons of the basic image for the different users (there are always icons, network drives that are missing, or the taskbar is not the same) and sometimes when I start a session I end up with a black screen for one or two minutes and just after using the taskbar is impossible and I would like have more information on spare machines when creating spare machines.

Horizon client 4.6.0 on Linux Mint: says libusbRedirectionClient.so is missing but it's not

Freshly installed 4.6.0 (32bit) connects to the remote server correctly.  When I launch the "desktop pool" a normal black fullscreen appears (as it normally does for a moment), but then after a few seconds the desktop pool reappears and there's no session with the remote VM.

The logs (which I can't begin to interpret) show that the point of failure is marked by the message "VDPUsbRedirectionVmdb_Init: failed to open plugin file /usr/lib/vmware/view/vdpService/libusbRedirectionClient.so: /usr/lib/vmware/view/vdpService/libusbRedirectionClient.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory".  This is puzzling, because

  1. USB redirection is not configured on this client.  I excluded it at the initial setup.
  2. That libusbRedirectionClient.so file exists, in exactly that specified position!

Any suggestions on how to debug this?

Another puzzling aspect of this--and I can't even see how this is relevant--is that this machine build is copied directly from another one, with just the hostname and associated addresses changed.  The "source" image works perfectly on the original machine.  This "cloning" process works flawlessly for 64-bit clients which are built in exactly the same way.
