usb redirection of smart card reader not working in Windows 10

$

I'm trying to get my HID OmniKey smart card reader to get redirected into my VDI with the 3.5 View agent. I read the articles about adding registry keys to allow the vid/pid pair in and did that. But it still doesn't work. The reader seems to work on Windows 7. But I'm using a Surface Book with Windows 10. It also fails with Windows 10 on a Samsung laptop. It could be also related to USB 3. I think my book has only USB 3 port.

I did verify that I see the reader in the device manager of my laptop. So it's there for sure. But the View app doesn't pick it up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings,

Are there any guides, tools or scripts (official or otherwise) yet for optimizing Windows 10 desktops running in Horizon View 6.2?

Thanks,

VMAgent Direct-Connection: Client Black/Timeout - logs indicate authentication error - please help

$

If anyone has experience with this, I would appreciate some help.  I have been trying everything I can find for three days, and it's still not working.  I think I have a local authentication issue on the View Agent.  The user included in both the Remote Desktop User group and the View Agent Direct-Connection Users group.  There are no errors in the Event Logs, but there are errors in the VDM logs.  The most suspicious one is the User 'WIN7B\user' not authorized (not local admin).  I can not find a solution to fixing this error.  The firewall is turned off.

Symptoms:  Horizon View Client makes initial connection, logon sounds, black screen, time out.  User is logged into remote machine after Horizon View connection failure, so part of the logon process completes.

Snip of Log Files on Agent machine:

Replace a Dell Perc Raid Controller

I am replacing a perc 310 raid controller with a H730P tomorrow on a ESXI 5.1.

I read these posts and it looks pretty straight forward:

Replace H310 with H710 - PowerEdge General HW Forum - Servers - Dell Community

LUN signature after RAID controller replacement

My question is I have a lower end Synology NAS and thought it would be safer to move the vms storage on that host to my NAS before I do the upgrade.

Then I can replace the card and if anything goes wrong everything is stored on the NAS.  Then only the vms are registered on the host but not the data.

Then after registering the new LUN and re-signaturing it all I have to do is add the vms back from the NAS datastore and then move the data back.

Does anyone see an issue with this?

Thanks,

VM with unsupported guest OS

Guys and gals, i have no idea where to start here with this.  I have built a development environment to work on testing a PCoIP over the internet for my company.  Anyway, i keep getting the error "VM with unsupported guest OS" when trying to add a windows 7 pool.  I have tried using windows 7, 8 and 10 all of them give the same error.  Strangely enough though Server 2012 works fine and deploys out as expected.  I have loaded the correct view agent on the workstations and it matches the view connection server version.

Any idea where to start looking?

Pool Design

Hi, I know Pool's are used to access VMs. But how should one design Pool, it is not exact science but more of art of understanding users, but there has to be some document or some explanation about Pool settings ?

DNS doesn't update when IP changes on VDI

$

I have approx 95% of my end users set up with VDIs (VMware Horizon View). When we have to reset or recompose a seat it typically gets a new IP as AD sees it as a new computer but when the VDI gets the new IP it doesn't update DNS. DHCP lease is set for 30 min (per best practice). I cannot find anything in the event logs and we do not get name conflicts. Other than shortening the lease time, is there another recommendation? I am hoping DNS and DHCP can work together on this instead of having to delete the old DNS name each time this happens.

Thanks,

Provisioning gets Disabled without any ERRORS

I am still trying to recover from the upgrade from hell and not sure if there is any light at the end of the tunnel yet.  The latest issue is that most times when i try to recompose existing pools (a few VM's at a time) it will get to a point where it goes thru all the recompose steps, then it gets to customizing and stops.  When i check the STATUS of the pool it shows that provisioning is DISABLED. There are no errors in the event viewer at all.  Once i ENABLE provisioning the recompose task continues.  I think the biggest issue for me is that i cannot schedule any recompose tasks which i do a lot of.  Any comments or suggestions are welcome.  I am running ESXi 6.0U1 and View 6.2.  All desktops are running the 6.1.1 agent due to a video driver version issue with some EHR software of mine.   Thanks in advance!

Recompose fails due to no network connection

Good afternoon everyone,

Issue = When recomposing linked clone pool a vm it fails with error “Provisioning error occurred for Machine XXXXX: Customization error due to no network communication between the View agent and Connection Server”

During recompose \ customization, the vm is powered off and never powers back on to complete recomposing. It sits powered off for an extended period of time and I get the error message above.

If I manually power on the vm via Vcenter it has an IP address but no network \ internet connectivity

Via vcenter if I remove the original network card and add a new network card, the vm will now get an ip and network connectivity. (vmxnet3, same vlan)

I have multiple pools and its all acting this way, Has anyone seen anyting like this?

things ive tried on the parent vm

* updating & downgrading vmware tools

* reloading horizon view agent

[Horizon View 6.2] Immediately switched active window to hosted app (SAP B1 Client) when there is alert in SAP B1

Hi All,

Not sure this is the normal behavior but it is kind of annoying. My client told me that while they are working on their excel and having the hosted app SAP B1 client opened, whenever there is alert from SAP B1 the active windows is immediately switched to SAP B1 client.

Is it normal? Or can I change any policy to disable that?

To confirm this only apply to hosted app, my client has tried launching the SAP client locally and there is no similar behavior. SAP B1 client will not be switched to active window automatically whenever there is alert message.

vSGA drivers causing poor WPF performance

$

I have been testing multiple WPF applications with vSGA, vGPU, and software only virtual machines and have run into poor performance when it comes to the vmware vSGA drivers.

In WPF there is a grid function that displays a grid of information, scrolling around this grid is painful at best when using a vm with vmware's vSGA drivers.  This is an example of a demo WPF application that displays the poor performance when scrolling up and down the grid on the left hand side.

2015-12-16 11_59_18-Clipboard.png

Has anyone else run into any issues with this?

My assumption is that the poor performance is due to vmware's inability to utilize anything above directx 9, is that correct?

The software only VM actually performs better than the vSGA VM which is what leads me to believe it is a driver related issue.  The vGPU VM performs as good as a physical machine, as expected.

thanks

Eric

Symantec Endpoint Protection on Horizon View 6.0 Linked Clone with Persona Management, message "profile failing to back up"

$

Some users receive the error that their persona failed to backup. KB 2019247 does not appear to be the problem. In the VMWVvp.txt log, there are repeated lines of this:

[593708][12/17/2015 09:12:35:0793][RTOLogon!PreDC            ] Retrieved Normalized File Name Info: Process: ccSvcHst.exe, File: \Device\HarddiskVolume2

Perhaps that is part of the problem? Persona Logging and Debug flags are on. Within 3 hours, one sessions VMWVvp.txt got up to 300 megabytes. With the Persona Management GPO, we have already excluded the ccSvcHst.exe process and we have used the vietool to mark all existing files on the parent image as clean.

Any ideas what the problem could be? What should we be looking for in the log?

Regardless, the profiles seems to be intact from one day to the next.

Quadro 6000 not working after ESXi6.0U1 update

We have just upgraded our view environment from View 5.2 and ESXi5.1 to view 6.2 and ESXi6.0U1.

since the upgrade, we have been unable to get our Quadro 6000 graphics cards back working for use with sVGA. I have installed a couple of different host drivers and they all give the same result.

we have tried

NVIDIA-VMware_ESXi_6.0_Host_Driver_346.42

# vmgpu

returns nothing

# /etc/init.d/xorg status

Xorg is not running

# esxcli system module load -m nvidia

Unable to load module /usr/lib/vmware/vmkmod/nvidia: Busy

I have checked in the bios and the primary display is set to the integrated graphics and not the Quadro card. Host is a DL380 Gen8. Not to sure where to go from here.

VMware Horizon View Client connecting to VDI Pool from within a VDI Pool Entry Point not found error

$

Just this week we started experiencing the following issue/error.

We have users that connect to VDI Pools, most via RDP, using Dell/WYSE T10 thin clients (which don't support PCOIP).  From within their VDI Session they can launch VMware Horizon View Client on the VM and connect to other VDI Pools to access specific applications.

Just this week when users are attempting to connect to different VDI Pools from within a VDI Pool the VMware Horizon View Client gives the following error, this only happens when they are connecting to VDI Pools that use RDP as the default or only protocol for connecting but occurs on Multiple VDI Pools that worked fine last week.

You can click through this error, occurs 3 times, and eventually connect but after some time the VM becomes unresponsive/unstable.

vmware.png

I can duplicate the issue on a PC, taking the thin client out of the mix, by using VMware Horizon View client to do the exact same process as the Thin Clients are using.

I have spend a whole day, trying new Horizon View Clients on the VDI Pools, rolling back updates on the Broker, recomposing VDI Pools to earlier snapshots etc.& have not found a fix.  I have also searched online and nothing comes up for this error.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

How do you fix bloating C:\Windows size from Windows Update on Win7 Pro Master Image?

$
0
0

My C:\ drive is at 57.4 GB.

Mostly,

C:\Windows at 43.6 GB

-- C:\Windows\Installer at 21.3 GB

-- C:\Windows\winsxs at 12.2 GB

I have ran Disk Cleanup and removed all unnecessary applications but there's no stopping the two folders mentioned above to grow.

I do have plenty of space on my SAN but there's going to be away for Microsoft to stop the Windows Update to just keep piling up the C drive. The smaller the C drive will also improve the performance of the VDI desktop.

Any other users with a similar situation?

Would you be so kind to share some tips?

Thank you.

Can't remove VMWare Bridge Protocol

$

Installed the view client on my Windows 10 PC to access work but system kept saying that the view client was not installed. Un-installed the view client.

Yesterday I tried to change some IP settings on my adaptor. I needed to add a new DNS IP. However I cannot do anything at all with the adaptors and they all say that there is an error. I notice they all have the VMWare Bridge Protocol in them. I have tried to deselect them but nothing happens. In fact cant change anything in the adaptor. Tried to un-install the protocol but it generates an error 0x8007007E. There were 2 extra adaptors from VMWare which I managed to remove by uninstalling the drivers on them.

I need help because soon my network wont work due to the wrong DNS it is pointing to and I can't change them. I don't really want to reformat the whole machine as there is a lot of stuff installed on it.

Please help me remove the protocol. I tried VMWare but they where not interested that their software caused this problem.
