Strange behavior View 6 with view composer and linked clones

Hello,

we are having a very rare error with Vmware view 6 on an environment with View Composer and linked clones. Randomly, when we make a refresh or a recompose of a machine, when finish, several machines have the same DNS name, so it return the message "Agent unreachable", this not happen always.

some idea or suggestion about the possible cause of the problem? and a possible solution?

Thnak you very much.

View persona suddenly has deleted profiles on share, and creating a hidden folder like this: {d24f2895-651a-40cc-8e5c-c037b9994104}

$

0

Can anyone help me with this?

we are still on 5.3, but all of a sudden some users are reporting that their desktop icons etc has dissapeard.

When looking at the share, some users only have a hidden folder called something like: {d24f2895-651a-40cc-8e5c-c037b9994104}

And inside that folder is a {d24f2895-651a-40cc-8e5c-c037b9994104}.DB file and a LOCK.{d24f2895-651a-40cc-8e5c-c037b9994104} file.

That`s it

From the VMWvp_Status.txt file on the VM that the user is logged on, I cannot see any specific error messages relating to this.

It seems to be getting the policy as well, cause the log file is listing up all folders that should be excluded and such.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Floating Pool - Adding new Devices

First all I'm new to the site however not totally new to VMWare just VMView. The original administrator for the our view environment setup a Floating Pool however I cannot figure how to add a device.

Usually when I go Pool>Inventory> Add I  search for the newly created workstation and add it to the pool, however with this pool I'm presented with a different with screen that states the following:

Enter Desktop Names

Enter names that will be used to create new virtual machines.

Each line must contain a unique desktop name. Optionally, for dedicated pools, a user name can be specified also. User names will be ignored for floating pools.

I attempted to add the new workstation it shows up in the pool then it disappears.

Thanks,

Mike

Post Synchronization Script With Linked Clone Desktops- View 6

Hi All,

New to the board here, but I've learned a lot thus far.  I have a question regarding post-synchronization scripts.  I created two windows bath files.  One, just calls the second one.  In my second batch file, I've received help on scripting a netsh command to change the IP Address, Gateway, Subnet Mask, and DNS Servers based on the computer name.  The script works when I run it manually.  When I login to the VM, I can check the temp files and see that the log says that is started the .bat file; however, it doesn't says if it has ever completed it.  I don't receive any error codes either.  I'm very puzzled by this and would appreciate any help with this.

I've attached the two files that I've been using...

Thank you all.

P.S. In my PostSync.bat file, I call another file that is sitting in the directory, so I know that part of the code works as well.  This file lists the computer names, ip addresses, and etc.

Horizon View 6 - Persona Management - Folder Redirection and Roaming & Synchronization

I'm having a quirky issue with the PMView.  This is what I see:

- Log as test user with Horizon View client (1st time)

- View Desktop loads Windows, and shows desktop (30-45 seconds)

(During this step, I see the profile and redirected folders are created correctly)

- Log off test user

- Log back in with the same test user (2nd time)

- View Desktop loads Windows, shows the "Welcome" screen, and then a black screen.

(During this step, I see the profile repository get "recreated" (i.e., the folders/files get deleted, and then recreated...))

- After 1-2 minutes later, the desktop shows up

This seems like an odd behavior to me, and it's probably related to how I've created my PMview.

This is what I have:

vGPU/ESXi 6.0 "Hardware GPU is required but not available"

Hi there,

I'm having problems powering up a VM that is configured with hardware 3D rendering. It throws an error "Hardware GPU is required but not available. The virtual machine will not start until GPU resources are available or the virtual machine is configured to allow software rendering". I've upped the VM hardware version from 9 to 11 just to see if it made any difference.

I've looked around and various folks have had different issues but the good people here ask for the same info so hopefully providing it below will help.

Surface Pro 2 cannot connect to view externally crashes network connection - very odd

Good Morning,

So we are running View 6 on vSphere 5.5.  We have a users that has a surface pro 2 and when in the office connects to his dedicated desktop just fine, when he tries to connect via the internet he can connect to the view security server, enter credentials, be presented his desktop, as soon as he selects his desktop it starts to open and then the view client crashes and it also crashes the surface pro 2 wi-fi connection  This is highly repeatable.  To make things even a bit more odd anyone else can connect to that same desktop just fine and use it all day, and to go one more step if we assign this particular user a different dedicated or linked clone he can connect just fine using the surface pro 2.  This one is kicking my $%^&&*&.  We have even tried using RDP with no success as well to this particular desktop on the surface pro 2.  It is currently running the vmware vmxnet3 NIC but have also tried the IntelPro NIC as well with the same result.  We have also verified that the Networking Host Fix for Windows 7 is installed.

  Any thoughts?

TIA,

Jim

Grey screen of death on Retina MacBook Pro

I have a late 2014 Retina MackBook Pro that does not want to play well with Horizon.

Whenever I try to connect to our external server, it takes a while to load and then my entire screen is overtaken with a light grey colour background. Everything disappears - the Finder, any menu bars, all controls - and the machine just hangs up. All I can do is force quit and kill the Horizon client. I can't make any preferences changes to the Horizon app because there's no menus to do anything (they all have disappeared).

I don't have any problem connecting to our server on my iPad, Android phone or Windows desktop, but this rMBP has never worked with Horizon. I always get the grey screen of death. I've also tried re-installing the app multiple times (using AppZapper).

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

thanks

Control-Alt-Delete screen appears - not being bypassed after logging on

$

Good day,

Within our company we use VMware View for our VDI (Windows 7 Enterprise). An issue we currently have with this enviroment is that when a user logs on to Windows, he recieves the "Control-Alt-Delete" screen. When the user is pressing "Control-Alt-Delete", Windows will start loading the profile, without having the user to enter his Windows credentials. So in this scenario, the "Control-Alt-Delete" screen is completely pointless, as the user fills in his credentials on the Zero Client or within the VMware View client, which are being passed to Windows succesfully.

We have no idea where to look at to fix this annoying issue. Colleagues who also deployed VDI have no issues: the user logs on and Windows will 'bypass' the "Control-Alt-Delete" screen. This is the way I'd like to set it up too. I have also checked the group policies, but none of them have any settings that might affect the "Control-Alt-Delete" welcome screen.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

Clones hanging on Configuration

$

I hope this is the right forum. Apologies if it's not.

First off my setup:

  • I'm using VMWare View Manager 4.0, vSphere 4.0, and VMWare ESX 4.0.0.
  • I'm trying to setup some Windows XP 64-bit machines to use with our thin clients.
  • The 64-bit XP template is using VMWare Tools 8.3.7.

Here's my problem: I get the template going, I get it to join the the Active Directory, the new machines build from the template, but VMWare View Manager never registers getting past Customizing. The machines register with the AD server, they get a name that even shows up on vSphere, but the Customizing never goes away until it changes to Error.

I had McAfee 8.something installed but I have removed it. I turned the firewalls off within XP. I was able to telnet to ports 3389, 4001, and 8009 on the View Manager server. As far as I can tell there's nothing blocking communications between machines and the server. When I set the customization script to login as the local Administrator it does.

What am I doing wrong? What can I do to fix this?

I'm about ready to just ditch the VMWare customization and write my own customization script  that fires off when admin logs in. Any suggestions or pointing to documentation I've missed would be welcome.

Thanks.

Issues with Accessibilty APIs in Windows 7 desktop running in View?

$
0

I've got a document management application from Laserfiche and a companion app called Connector that uses the Windows Accessibility API to link on-screen data in an application to a Laserfiche search. Laserfiche provides a tool to create a profile that identifies the application, window name (or URL if the app is IE) and the controls you want to use. When that app is active and on the window/URL you've specified, there's a small button Connector adds to the title bar of the app. Click the button and it scrapes the contents of the control you defined and passes that data to a Laserfiche search.

Works great on a physical desktop - not so much on my VDI desktops. The behavior there is erratic. Sometimes it gets window/control info, other times it seems not be hooking into any of the window data at all. Even trying to kill the app on a VDI desktop causes it to hang. I tried to isolate the problem by  uninstalling the Horizon View Agent (6.0.1) on one of my desktops and viola, problem disappeared. The app consistently gets the window/control info it needs and works every time, so it looks like the View Agent is doing something that interferes with Connector getting the info (Windows messages?) it needs.

I have a ticket open with Laserfiche but I fully expect to get the "Not supported on View" answer, so I'm wondering if anyone else has had any similar issues with apps that use the Accessibility APIs, or if there is any "tuning" I can do with the View Agent to make Connector play nicely with View.

vmware-view-usb issue with VMware View Cient 3.2.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit

Hello,

Today I installed VMware View Client 3.2.0 on my Ubuntu 14.04 x64 workstation and I am having issues with vmware-view-usb. I pretty much followed these instructions with the exception of a few more dependencies that were needed and an extra symbolic link: Horizon View 3.2.0 Client on Ubuntu 14.10 64 bit

I went through the installer and chose to install everything including USB redirection. The setup completed and I ran the tests at the end which all came back successful. I launched vmware-view, connected to our Horizon connection server, and connected to a few machines and noticed that I did not have any USB redirection options. I took a look at the Horizon client log and saw the following errors:

2015-04-29 16:53:40.577: vmware-view 32253| Starting child: vmware-view-usb '-a' '127.0.0.1' '-p' '43042' '-u' '[omitted]'

2015-04-29 16:53:40.579: vmware-view 32253| CdkViewUsb_Init: (is vmware-view-usbd running?)

vmware-view-usb is not running, in fact its not even installed on the workstation. A find search of the whole system returns no results for vmware-view-usb. I have the vmware-usbarbitrator but not vmware-view-usb. Thinking that I may have messed up something during the installation when determining the necessary dependencies, I installed the VMware View Client again on another Ubuntu 14.04 x64 workstation and again, no vmware-view-usb is installed. Any thoughts as to why this is not being installed and is there a way for me to add the missing file(s)?

Thanks,

Jesus

I have a couple of users who after a recompose of their view desktop the runas command no longer works and instead when trying to runas they get an error "The system cannot find the file specified".   It is the same couple of users after every recompose.   We have unassigned the users and assigned them to different machines and same issue after the next recompose.   We assigned to a new machine and didn't allow the profile to be copied and still same issue.

I would like to verify is I am understanding this correctly.  I have a Pool created with Windows 7 Professional desktops with RDP version 8.1 installed.  If I try to connect from a View client that has 2 monitors into the RDP Pool, the entire View desktop spans over both monitors.  I cannot have 2 independent monitors.  Maximized applications stretch both monitors rendering the application all but useless due to the extreme resolution.  The only way to get get independent monitors (like PCoIP does) to work and not stretch over 2 monitors is to use Windows 7 Enterprise or Ultimate with RDP 7.x or higher in a View RDP Pool?
