Which Windows Server Edition as a Desktop?

Hi Guys,

my client asked me yesterday why is only Windows Server 2008/2012 DATACENTER Edition supported as a Desktop and not Standard or Enterprise.

He has Datacenter licensed on all host but use Windows Standard Edition for all this VMs only. He don't need the Datacenter features. I know that there is a different regarding the license model.

So again, if I buy Datacenter license for all my host, I am also permit to deploy Windows Server Standard and Enterprise VMs.

You can read in the Horizon View Administrator Guide Windows Server Datacenter as a supported OS for the View Agent.

What happened if I depolay Windows Server 2008 Standard as a Desktop in Horizon View. Any disadvantage vs. a Datacenter Edition?

Regards,

VM-Master
